This used to happen to me when i was taking Seroquel and Klonopin. I always wondered if it was the 2 medications combined having a weird effect on sleep or if i was started to attempt astral projection.
I would awaken in my sleep (while still asleep in a dreamstate) and outside the light/dark would match what it really was outside and i'd be where i fell asleep and try to get up and i would struggle and struggle to sit up, the most i got once was to my elbows or so i thought as if i was pulling my astral body (if you believe in that, the discription is fitting) out of my physical body, then i would really wake up confused.
I stopped taking Seroquel almost a year ago (sleeping better now) and i hardly take Klonopin that much; haven't had any sleep paralysis in awhile.

I like getting sleep paralysis. I think it's interesting. Last time was a couple of months ago or something.

I had one ocassion to where I was freaken paralyzed for what seemed to be a long time ??...... I napped and awoke and could not move ; I watched the sun set indirectly by watching the light wane through the window and finally 'it' broke and I was able to move ......from research this can last up to ___ minutes; but honestly this one bout seemed much longer here.

This happened several times up into my twenties and have not had a bout since 1987 .

(Im self dxed btw)

I have been getting night terrors since I was small, but this past few months they got worse, its funny that when ever I am on antidepressants
such as Effexor I see an increase in night terrors. I went on effexor in june to help with depression, but what I noticed was an increase of weird
dreams and nightmares, not to mention the massive headaches. well last month I started getting very bad terrors and would wake up screaming,
the final one was having a cloaked figure standing over me and it felt like it was pulling the life out of me, when I woke up I had screamed so loud the
entire house thought I was being murdered, I was frozen in place and couldn't move. I was sick the rest of the day with a bad headache, so I knew something was wrong, I looked up some of the side effects of any meds I was on and found the following for effexor that I was having
Vivid/Abnormal dreams
Insomnia
Dizziness
Headache
Electric shock-like sensations also called "Brain zaps"
Nervousness, agitation or increased anxiety
Suicidal thoughts
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome
not to mention the withdrawals which has a name Discontinuation syndrome, I went off effexor cold turkey
So if your getting night terrors check to see which meds your on

The first ASP I had, I was dreaming that I was a vampire, and me and a few other vampire friends were in a graveyard, searching for this ultimate evil entity, to destroy it...as soon as it approached us, I woke up, and could feel it in the corner of my room...I "got up" and "looked" at it (out of body) but I couldn't see anything there.

I have had issues with sleep paralysis since I was a child... stuck in my body, stuck in my head... unable to pick up my arms, legs... cannot win the fight with gravity... I cannot speak, call for help or scream... but I am aware of what is happening around me... if my husband is snoring beside me in bed or the tv is on I can hear it. I feel like something is coming to pull me from my body. It is most upsetting. Sometimes I am not as upset by it and roll with it and find myself in this endless expanse of water and it is shallow and while I am not physically there, I feel as though I am on my knees and the water goes up to my chest. There are always three giant stars in the sky and this pendulum light that bounces and makes this thwump sound when it hits either outer star. It never stops in the middle and that fascinates me. Sometimes I am not in the water though and that is bad. Sometimes I feel like I am in the corner looking down at the water and I will see someone I know in the water and get a (for lack of better word) 'vision' of them. It is never anything good and it messes me up for days.

As an interesting side note... some people have discussed the notion of jinn sitting on the torsos of people, causing what we call sleep paralysis. Sorry... I kind of dig on the jinn...

running down the stairs towards me as I slept on the couch, I think I was only 5 or 6 at the time
I was frozen in place and couldn't scream. Who here has the samsquanch nightmares.

so here is the deal, Im new here, and how I found this site was I did a search for AS and SP. For years I could not figure out why I had SP, if one does a search on the net all they talk about is narcolepsy. So for years I thought I had Narcolepsy. I just figured out recently that I I'm most likely AS. I also have writhing feet (I role my toes over one another at night, or early morning). I thought it was something else like a basal motor problem. I have had SP since I was a child, It comes and goes, it gets worse in places with hot weather. Its especially bad in late mornings, or nap time when there is a light source from the sun coming in the window.

There are all sorts of paintings from back in the renaissance about people getting "hagged". Meaning some people with SP get the vision of another person (typically and old hag) not only in the room with them, but also sitting on their chest crushing the air out of them.

This says AS children are more likely to experience sleep issues but it does not explicitly mention sleep paralysis , I have had problems with Sleep paralysis recently, 2 years ago the problem was very strong, it is right now (thankfully) not getting as frequent as before. I came to the point of getting used to go to sleep very late to ensure it would not happen since it is very scary. (And I was 21 years old back then)

Sleep Paralysis has happened to me numerous times in the past. Nowadays not so much, but yes it's a very uncomfortable feeling. I can't move my body for 1 or 2 minutes, and my neck has this tickling vibration feeling, and I "sense" an evil presence...

For me it's only lasted a few seconds and only happened twice; my body tingled and felt heavy; I could not move. Although it occurred for a few seconds both times, it still scared me...

My mum has mentioned before that she used to suffer from sleep paralysis a lot in her teenage years and I think she's an aspie, but I don't know if sleep paralysis has a connection with aspergers.

Try searching for "awareness during sleep paralysis" and see if that helps your results at all.

It still happens to me, from time to time. I'll be in my bed, sleeping, and than I wake up and I can't move. Sometimes, there's this Incubus Nightmare on top of me. His green eyes look down at me, I get scared and lose control of my bodily functions. At the end of it all, I feel so exhausted, that I just roll over, and get back to sleep.

When I was younger I used to have nightmares that I would see an animal, such as a wasp, a spider, or a rat, and it would jump on my back at the lower part and start gnawing. I would be in pain and trying to get it off my back and when I would wake up my entire lower back would feel like a painful knot, uncoiling, it was a really awful sensation. I think perhaps I was in deep sleep and paralysed...

I've had sleep paralysis accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations for many years now constantly. I've gotten kind of use to them but when they first started I thought I was going insane or something. It helped when I learned what they were but that doesn't make them less freightening. They are extremely terrifying but I can't do the insomnia thing to prevent them, my body won't allow it and makes them worse if I don't get enough sleep.

Everyone has sleep paralysis, it happens every single time you sleep.

I've experienced it while conscious once or twice, but I did that on purpose. It's easy enough to do, just stay relaxed in bed after you've woken up from at least a few hours' sleep and don't turn around or move at all when you get the urge to, then you'll be able to lucid dream if you imagine where you want to be and focus on it.

I'm 47 years old / f and think I have experienced something like sleep paralysis for years. but I don't have any of the night terrors or hallucinations reported by others; just a kind of rigor upon waking, a couple times a night. I lie there and analyze it; it's more interesting than anything else. But I can move if I want to, it just takes some effort to shake off the heavy cobwebby feeling. When I'm falling asleep, I can actually feel it creep up on me now, like it's some kind of sleep drug being released, and I start getting that cobwebby feeling. I kind of like it, it's like a heavy blanket.
