AS interferes with social initiative. I would guess if more women visit this site then men, that that doesn't imply that there are more female members. Men have, by default more initiative then women (imo) at least to out-group people. Thus i would suspect that there are more male posters even if there are more female visitors.
This same issue plays a role in the statistics of the number of diagnoses that exist of AS. I would guess there are as many females with AS as males, but that males are more likely to a) notice the symptoms because males have greater need for social initiative then females (again imo) b) I would think that a higher percentage of men that notice their symptoms would seek diagnosis than women.... Mainly I think this because I believe that there is a greater social stigmata placed on "shy" men than there is on "shy" women.
Shy is attractive in women... or do i just think that because I'm an Aspie?
Anyways ... to the question of the OP... Well, i haven't checked my lotto-max ticket yet.. but if i win the 50 million, i'll start a colony tomorrow.
Most of the problems with such a group that have been pointed out are superfluous. People that don't "wish they could be more social" wouldn't likely move to the community. Most of us are anti-social not because we choose to be, but because experience has taught us to be. By living in such a community, after a time that ice would start to break, as we didn't the normal misunderstandings in day to day life.
I like the outdoors you know...
I think i'll start a delivery service... door to door. And i'll sell little lock boxes for my customers so that they can put the money in them, and i can leave the delivery and the change in there and they don't even have to talk to someone if they don't want... they can totally seal themselves off if they want... But, as I said, I think that attitude will wear off very quick.
I do have one question though... what about non-AS children of aspies? do we have to give them up for adoption or something?
Also there is the issue of classic autism children born to aspie parents, that'll upset the few posters that were adamant that there be none.
We got a lot of details to work out, but I could see this working just fine. We might have trouble finding an ISP that is willing to service the area without having special rates (like 5x higher) for us though... Just imagine the bandwidth we use. It would be like a company offering flood insurance in the middle of a flood plain.
As for being a step towards segregation. I don't find that it really is segregation, I don't see it a gated community, though I do see some sort of residency restrictions being in place. I know there are similarities to a racial community, in that this is something people were "born with" not "decided to be" but on the same token it's a group of people that share something "real" with each other, are similar in behavior... not just in the colour of their skin.... which to me is no different than the colour of their eyes or of their favourite shirt.
