I wore around CAT workboots for years. They were awesome and they'd last me 7 to 10 years at a time. But it's getting harder and harder to find them in women's sizes. I liked the ankle-high ones and I really really liked the weight. They helped to work out issues with my odd gait.

I only wear moccasins, and I need to buy a new pair every five or six months.
I strongly dislike having to change the pair of shoes that I wear. I only do so when I need new ones. Then, after that, I only wear those shoes until they wear out.

About a year or two.

I do a lot of walking..or used to, and wear the same shoes every day. Most people alternate between different shoes so the pairs last longer.

I love my current pair of shoes. In fact I like them better than any shoes I have ever owned and I only wish I could afford to buy two pairs at once, because when they're worn I might not be able to find the same model, and I doubt I'll ever find shoes as comfortable again.

My shoes last about 6 to 9 months. I keep needing to get them replaced because I'm an avid runner. Although I have to say I haven't been running as frequently lately (1 - 2 times per day as opposed to 4+ times) due to my new sleeping schedule.

I used to need yearly replacements, I have had 4 overlapping pairs recently.
1 steel toed work boots (rarely worn, had for 2 years I believe and going on strong)
2 airwalks with laces (rarely worn, these got oddly lumpy after a year or so, forget when I got them probably 15-16)
3 basketball shoes (current pair, had since I was 17-)
4 laceless airwalks (entire inside has fallen apart, they are more like uncomfy slippers now had since I was 17-)

I have 2 pairs of shoes. My current pair of shoes that I have worn since October 28 2004 that I purchased as a birthday present(2 days after I turned 24).The shoelaces have become frayed and the stitching around the toe is starting to split. They're 2 sizes larger than my feet but,it they are very comfortable. The previous pair lasted approximately 2 years. My second pair which I have owned since November 9 2008,has a split on the heel of my left shoe.I usually use my second pair for formal/job interviews.I also have sandals and thongs that have been used for over 8 years.

It depends on the type of shoe and how often I wear them.

My current work shoes are absolutely BUSTED! They are like ballet flats but they now have a hole in the toe and the sole is worn down bad. I think they're about a year old.

When I was a kid I tended to wear shoes out in about a year. I used to drag my feet a lot (and trip and fall over a lot, also). Nowadays I don't walk much; it's pretty much a drive to go anywhere to do anything, which gets me within 50 feet of wherever I'm going to.

I also <3 my super-soft filp flops. I wish summer was longer so I could wear them year-round.

My Doc Marten's last for 5+ years and I have to breakdown and get another pair cause the sole is worn down so much but the rest of the shoe is fine. I would walk to work in winter and my feet wouldn't freeze or get soaked from the oil finish. My feet are wide and most shoes would be done in 6 months cause my bone on the ball of my foot would wear a hole but not so with the Doc's full grain leather. I am flat footed also and they're the only pair where my legs gave out before my feet did. I use to stand for about 6 hours on a concrete floor.

In the summer I prefer the soft Teva sandals.

You can get Doc's resoled. Same with Birkenstocks. As long as you haven't warn them through the layer beneath the sole. Not sure what the cost is compared to a new pair but it would save you from having to break-in another pair.

Getting shoes is painstaking for me as my feet are sensitive and blister easily. A new pair of shoes mean excruciating blisters for at least a year. Most of my shoes are at least 10 years old. My sandals and runners need replacing and I'm dreading the experience. Unfortunately my Birks are worn through and the soles cannot be replaced a second time now. Finding shoes that wear well is a must.

Has anyone tried shimano biking shoes?

I usually get a few years out of shoes, but I also believe in having several pairs for proper foot health & posture. If you wear the same shoes every day, or even 3 or 4 times a week, your feet will get accustomed to those shoes, and will start to build callouses and bone growths to compensate for the fit of the shoes. If you wear a different style (or at least a different brand) of shoes every day; say maybe at least 5 pairs so that only two pairs get worn more than once in a week), you're never going to have foot problems later on.

And cheap shoes = a TERRIBLE MISTAKE. I find that for daily comfort and good foot health, New Balance or Skechers ($40-$80 range) seem to be the best. For work boots, which I wear 80% of the time, I like Carhartt (most made by Red Wing), and Timberland. Those boots are in the $125 range for the ones I like, and up to $300 for the same style with specialized safety features like impact-rated toe caps and electrical hazard, etc.

(source of wearing different shoes daily theory: several doctors whose material I've read, plus personal experience)

Ah, but not my shoes. Mine fit 100% perfectly from day one. There was absolutely no breaking in or getting used to period. It felt like I had been wearing them forever.

Never have I come across shoes like this before. Most new shoes feel awkward at first and you have to do a good deal of walking in them before you become accustom to them and they start to "relax". And even if a shoes appears comfortable after this period, you can usually not walk more than three or so miles in until their non-deal fit starts to cause some type of foot discomfort.

However these shoes I have walked 7 miles straight in before and never once experienced any foot discomfort. The only reason I stopped my walk was because I was tired.

I'd far rather go barefoot, but you just can't do that all the time. I used to own 3 pair of shoes at a time: 2 pair of docksiders and 1 pair of reeboks. I'd wear out a pair of reeboks in about a year and the docksiders in about 2.

My boyfriend is trying to get me to fit into a higher socio-econonomic class, so I now have more shoes, and have no idea how long they will last.

I'd like to suggest a brand to those who have a hard time finding comfortable shoes: Taryn Rose. The company was started by an orthopedic surgeon who got fed up with the torturous treatment her feet had to go through. She saw no reason that shoes - especially expensive shoes - shouldn't be comfortable from the first time you put them on, as started a company to make comfortable yet stylish shoes. I have one pair, and find them to be the most comfortable shoes I've ever had.

Fair warning - if you buy them in a store, they are hideously expensive - $400 - 500 a pair! However, if you know your size, you can consistently find them on E-Bay, or from Grapevinehill.com for about $100. Still not cheap, I know, and some can't spend that much on shoes. But if you can find that much in your budget, I'd recommend considering them.

My every day shoes usually last around 2 years. This is probably due to the fact that I only wear shoes when I'm going outside or doing deep cleaning that would hurt my bare feet.

12 months for my main pair of trainers, a new pair are usually needed around the january sales.

I cycle a couple of other pairs in which often last much longer but aren't used anywhere near as much. I threw out my old shoes and bought a new pair recently. I'd had my old pair of shoes for 10 years. I don't wear smart shoe shoes much.

2 years, if it was anything like a year ago walking no less than 4 miles a day then a year at best. Due for a new pair and I have the money for the name brands, but I'm being lazy :)
