Music for aspies

I was really doubting there really was an Asperger's syndrome until I googled wrong planet for Koyaanisqatsi and up came a thread on minimalism that mentioned lots of other music that appeals to my aspie brain that only I thought I knew about, like Brian Eno's Music for Airports and Aphex Twin.

The appeal may not be universal among aspies, but to any aspies or parents of aspies I strongly recommend the "movie" Koyaanisqatsi, I can and have watched that over and over, and the music, by Philip Glass, I have on my mp3 player and stereo. You can find bits of it on YouTube and your library should have it.

For aspies of all ages I recommend:

anything by Bach, especially the inventions, especially played by Glen Gould, or my fav record as a kid that I still play Switched on Bach by Wendy (formerly Walter) Carlos
Philip Glass
Steve Roach
Brian Eno
Aphex Twin

I would be interested to know if other aspies like Kraftwerk, Fatboy Slim, Mouse on Mars, or Royksopp.

I liked Phillip Glass' Songs from Liquid Days There's a really cool tune on that done by the Roches.

But I love music of all sorts, some genres more than others, but I can usually find something I like in any school.

I'm mostly into hard rock, metal, electronic, and most combinations there-of. I'll also listen to some funk, jazz and even folk from time to time too, through. Not rap or hip hop, though; except for Eminem.

Different, but an acquired taste?

Yeah, I like it. Only problem I have with a lot of minimalistic music is that my brain tends to pick out a specific element of the music, such as a rhythmic synth, and just focus on that until it becomes nothing but arrhythmic noise to me. I usually have to pause the song, clear my head, then turn it back on again to get rid of the auditory isolation effect. And then I have to remember not to let myself do it all over again.

That's awesome! Talking Heads is one of my favorite bands.

I love the tetris theme, I learned to play it on the piano, over and over, to the chagrin of my daughters.

I love the space stage music for the game spore. Sometime I just listen to that instead of playing. It's written by Brian Eno but I think a lot of it is procedurally generated.

Like rmctagg09, I listen almost exclusively to soundtrack, particularly video game music. I never developed an interest of music for music's sake, and find the association of video game music to my thoughts and memories of the games to be much more appealing than music that means nothing to me on its own.
