When it comes to papers, I am afraid to throw anything away but I am woefully disorganized so when I find I need a certain paper I am really stressed. I think hoarding is different from collecting because with hoarding you're anxious about letting something go for whatever reason.

When I was little, I'd find random things on the floor, stick them together with an elastic band or something, and call it my new invention. It's like Microsoft when they made the Zune

But even to this day, I hate throwing old things away. You never know when they will come in handy!

I get attached to things. I mean maybe it's just general aspieness but... I think it also has to do with my memory. I have a good memory for events, even details, but not a good memory for the feelings, for the atmosphere. For some reason, things and music can bring me back. Things are my link back in time.

I do get attached to things too... and also I hate the change when it comes to replacing them.

I'm a moderate hoarder. I don't live under a mountain of junk, but I do keep things that normal people would not save. I have a lot of stuff that is only worth something to me.

I went trough my old school books and I saved a few. I had a look at the math book from I was around 11. I remembered hating that book so much. It was really thick for being for kids that young and I could never keep up. But then I felt I somehow liked it because... I don't know. I struggled with myself and then tossed it, trying to be true to my inner 11 year old that hated it.

Hoarding and collecting are not the same thing:

Very true. Unfortunately hoarders all too often confuse the two. Ever watch American Pickers on the History Channel? Some of those people I swear aren't really collectors at all. They're hoarders for sure.

The only collection I attach any real importance to is my books collection related to my special interest (abnormal psychology, grown out of autism). I do feel attached to some of my clothes, and also my lamps collection, but that's about it. I try to keep the rest to a minimum, as having too much stuff overwhelms me. Plus, I get rid of things because I have bad memories associated with a lot of them (my life was pretty crappy for the most part). I've had a hoarding tendency as a kid, keeping any scrap, but now I've gotten rid of the things I didn't need and don't feel a need to buy anything new outside of the things I use frequently/collect.

I do collect some random things for fun, but they're by no means important collections and I could easily throw them out if I needed to.

I do not hoard. I do not believe hoarding to be AS behavior. I collect things based on my special interest, but am easily capable of letting go of unecessary physical items like old clothes, for example. Hoarders cannot do this.
