AgentPalpatine, electricity generation and maintaining supply aren't really problems that you would encounter, assuming that the community is desinged the right way. The waves and wind out at sea have many times more energy than you would need, and supply can be maintained through trade (no place can become 100% self-sufficient). A seastead doesn't need to be big, and one can be made within a budget of 100,000 dollars. Seasteading doesn't really involve cruise ships, nor do the platforms resemble them, they would probably be moored in one location. The true problem, though, is engineering a structure well enough to stand up to the energy of rogue waves. I know that the whole seasteading idea sounds pretty unrealistic, but this Aspie Nation idea is pretty unrealistic to begin with.
SuperMario, is there any chance you could provide a link to the $100,000 design? Please feel free to PM the link to me if WP does not allow the link to be posted.
I used cruise ships as the easiest comparision to the amount of logistics required to support a community at sea for periods longer than a day or two. What sort of trade goods, even software-based, can be produced in an enviroment of such a low infrustructure density?
I would have prefered the name of "Aspie Community" for this thread, but the principals that have been discussed in this thread are close enough for both. There are no known problems that would block an Aspie Community, it appears that the only reason there is not an Aspie Community yet, is because there has not been a successful attempt to put the resources together to establish one.
As Inventor has noted, the first version of anything is expensive. I would expect the same for a Seasteading community.
