i like some rap and some country and pop but I LOVE TRANCE. i like central european techno/trance but i don't like american techno because all those loud noises and wierd noises just make me feel agrivated. i like mediternian and middle eastern trance. i like the solid boom fom the bass and suden low beat . i like the way it seem to look in my also. the way TIESTO did the parade of athletes c.d made me realize and look into creek music and i like it also. i used to be into rap but i was more of a hype type like crime mob or low beat like getto boys or screwed music. but the type really depends on the mood. and ps does anyone else here kind of see the music in there head but can kind of see it with out visual for say like see it but not like a chair infront of you. i tried explaning it in a college music class but my proff. didn't understand but i hat music and art unless something i like.

Tool is unlike any music I have ever heard. It paints all kinds of cryptic and esoteric murals in my autistic little mind, packed full of different subjective meanings and interpretations and seemingly limitless inspiration with every listen.

It's so weird. Gnosis in a digitized can. Their videos are also consistently bizarre and thought-provoking. Some people call their abstract ramblings pretentious and meaningless but I'm assuming those people are just unfamiliar with concepts from the likes of Carl Jung's work and the ideas found in the kinds of literature he referenced while trying to explain the psychology of religions. Much of their music can be interpreted to have multiple meanings, as though they intentionally conform to the kinds of vague and ambiguous patterns which many religions have used in their texts, intentionally accomodating unconscious projection and permitting people to read their own meaning into the words, thus making it more attractive to a broad range of people without having to specifically address their individual interests - they get to do that themselves - which is admittedly kind of deceptive, and you could call it a cheap trick to gather listeners, but they are so good at it that it's as if they know some kind of secret technique to make it work for them, so the trick appears far from cheap.

Their ability to use that kind of ambiguity to allow people to assign their own meaning to their words is pretty damn intriguing, and definitely comparable to the ability employed by those ancient religious cults to harness that same effect and promulgate their religious doctrines.

Sorry, I'm slightly drunk and completely "nerding out" here with my excess enthusiasm. Ancient religions and their uncanny ability to inspire people through the use of intentionally ambiguous parables, prompting people to read their own meaning into them through unconscious projection and hold them as significant "teachings" as a result, is one of my "special interests" and it would appear that the band Tool share that same interest.

Nevermind all that! Their music is great too! Great guitar riffs and so on, with erratic rhythms which often do not adhere to the traditional repetitive tempos in most songs, changing throughout the songs. Rather than having the usual 8 beats per verse or whatever, they speed up and slow down and all kinds of stuff, often not even rhyming their verses, but still somehow managing to sound incredibly musical and not just like random noise.

If anyone is even still reading this overcomplicated post I'd recommend checking out their songs such as Lateralus or Parabola, perhaps the song 10,000 days from the album with the same name, maybe Vicarious etc.

Sorry, I really am rambling like a lunatic.

On a side note, or maybe a more relevant note, I agree that most rap music is garbage!

The thing about Aspergians and music, is that we each pick our own music, that is tailored to our special interests. My special interests are London, England and the 60s, so of course I'm going to want to listen to The Kinks, 80% of the time, just like I did before Pete passed away. The modern world does not phase me - but that's old business, from February.

my music really isnt tailored much to my special interests, unless you consider the fact I like playing guitar as one of them :/

as for another song, since I havent posted on in a long while which I can definately relate to, I will post one. I most definately had moments relating both to the lyrics as well as just general moodyness of the song.

as for lyrics....

Quote:
Breathing in and breathing out
My head leaned back my hands are tied
I stand in here alone I scream, questions why
Days slip by and nights I taste
These memories run through my veins
Injecting me with one last kiss, screaming why

This medication can't save me
This suffocation takes hold of me
I wanted to believe in all of this
I wanted to believe in you

All I am, all I have
Leads me down these roads again
Take my hand, show me the way
And never bring me back here

Determination, is pushing me
Perseverance, is what I bleed
I wanted to believe in all of this
I wanted to believe in you

All I am, all I have
Leads me down these roads again
Take my hand, show me the way
And never bring me back here

These are my unanswered prayers
The time has come for me to say goodbye

God please hear me, calling

All I am, all I have
Leads me down these roads again
Take my hand, show me the way
And never bring me back here

These are my unanswered prayers
the time has come for me to say goodbye

God please hear me, calling

I like pretty much all genres of music, but I can be picky about which songs/artists I like within a genre.

This is simply not true. Sure, it happens but it's not the norm unless your special interest centers around a specific type of music.

Heavily distorted 909s, no-input mixer feedback, high BPMs, chaotic but repetitive rhythms, heavily bitcrushed samples, tunes that are tunes in the same way that the sound of a dot matrix printer is a tune, especially on headphones in a dark room and combined with visuals that match the sounds. :D

I don't like songs. Lyrical, melodic music just sounds like background noise to me. If I want poetry, I'll read it, and if I'm going to read I'd rather read prose.

Currently I listen Dark Ambient and Minimal Techno. Generally I like to stay far away from vocals and melodies, even though I have been educated in, and was once very fond of, classical music.

I love UK Hip-hop and some older American stuff (KRS-One, Wu Tang, NWA, Gravediggaz, old Eminem etcetera), some Grime and Dubstep is ok but I'm really picky when it comes to those genres, I used to mix Drum and Bass for about 9yrs and it's what I started to MC to before I moved onto Hip-hop... Can't stand 99% of the stuff that is force-fed to people 20 times a day on the radio and at nightclubs/pubs and I really hate Happy Hardcore.

I like when I can hear a clear structure to music.

But I've mostly grown up on punk rock, although I'm turning more toward 60/70/modern retro rock and roll these days. And because of my history as being different than others and rejected for it and just a person that's more tuned into my emotions I go for that emo/punk stuff. I barely listen to the pop emo stuff anymore, although it's good for some nostalgia.

Because of my love of Brand New and Jesse Lacey I can still be kind of an elitist. That's like being an arrogant little b*****d towards people who have no idea about the bands you mainly listen to and have no interest when they talk about bands I'm not likely to listen to. I'm trying to get over this immaturity and I'm doing a lot better these days but it still sneaks up on me.

I can't imagine an Aspie being happy without Bach. He is God's musical gift to Aspies.

I've heard some I like somewhat, but I am certainly more of a rock and metal sort of person. Really though the main reason I dislike a lot of it is the garbage lyrics it has...I mean I am sorry but I don't want to hear about some guy degrading some 'b***h' or how they're about the thug life or whatever. But I have heard some that is entertaining or has lyrics that might point out a social issue or two that I kind of like. That aside I don't like the excessive auto-tune or ridiculously over-produced sound of a lot of the mainstream stuff.

But yeah it could be I take more issue with what's been popularized, than the whole genre in its entirety.

I listen to instrumental music, almost exclusively. Chopin, Bach, Vivaldi, Michael Hedges, Piano Guys, Franz Liszt, Paganini etc... love blues too! When I was a kid, I wanted classical music CDs for Christmas... been hooked since.
