Actually about that link..

There were people coming in spotting inconsistencies and bluntly so. One of those people in the thread were probably in on it and trying to phish for more money by saying how much they spent to encourage others however, there were aspies that had the BS meter and stood their ground. I was pointing out stuff as well but in a nicer manner. The point is, we're not all gullible, naive and easy to scam.

I've seen some scams played out on NT forums where people were being really mean if someone dared to come in and tell everyone it's a scam and then defend the scammer. There is no evidence that links aspies to being more naive and easier to scam than NT's. It makes me wonder if people claiming such are really trying to turn aspies into targets just so people can pick on aspies more. NT's fall for scams too.

Whoever are putting out these stereotypes are basically trying to put us all into one mold and if you don't think for yourself, you will subconsciously become that mold.

My uncle, who also has Aspergers, has been easily scammed in the past. It's due to the fact that he accepts people and their actions at face value. So when someone working at a restaurant smiles at him, acts friendly, maybe remembers his name, he thinks that person is his friend. There have been people who have taken advantage of him because they pretend to be friends who need a favor and my uncle doesn't consider ulterior motives. However; he also has a very low IQ so it might be that those two things coupled together can result in someone more susceptible to that sort of thing.

I think aspies can be scammed like someone at work can decide to sell you something and they say it works great. You believe them and buy it from them and find out it doesn't work. I think that be a dumb move anyway because why sell a co worker something that is busted because they can come to work the next day and say it doesn't work and they want their money back. You be right there for them to pester you and they spread the word for what you did to them and everyone knows how dishonest you are and deceitful. Bam your reputation is ruined.

That's something I do when people mess with me and most people leave me alone and I can assume it's because of this. They know I will spread the word if they mess with me and bam they are humiliated and have to face the shame and consequence from other people thanks to me. So be honest.

Name and shame works great!

I also like the fact that you can nut off at them for ages too, and watch them cringe. I did that recently with a phone survey company that wouldnt leave me alone. Got their phone number, rant at a supervisor, BAM no more phone survey calls. Nutting off is fun if you dont take it to heart and stress out. They will think twice next time they approach another victim...

That was just mentioned in my IM chat with one of my buddies here when I mentioned this thread to him and my post. I actually brought it up when he said an aspie scamming people would be so disappointing because you are more likely to believe them since they tend to be trustworthy.

TBH I am still not sure if it was a scam because he did offer to give back the money and also the fact he was told by his GF's mother to postpone coming out. Yeah laugh at me.

The neuropsychologist who tested me for Aspergers told me he had seen aspies with low IQs, but with very high verbal IQs that made them sound like a genius. He was suprised when he read their IQ scores and even considered retesting them.

Yes however, NT's are scammed alot. Beauty products, info commercials, fake charities, nigerian scams. I don't find any evidence that supports the conclusion that aspies are easier targets for scams.

Yes. Not everyone with Aspergers has a high IQ. He has his strength(s) (Beatles trivia immediately comes to mind), but yes, along with the difficulties that go with having Aspergers, he also (most likely a result of being oxygen deprived at birth) has a more limited intelligence and cannot take care of himself.

I asked because usually the determining factor of the difference between aspergers and classic autism is based on IQ differences however I can see how it doesn't apply to all especially if there are other factors involved. Thanks for sharing.

IDK, I think it depends. I easily see through email scams etc, but I get flustered in social situations so shopkeepers have an easy time persuading me to buy things I don't need, because I just agree so I can leave. I know not to let people I don't know or am not expecting into the house, and I know not to part with serious cash without a lot of consideration or to ever, ever, ever tell anyone my pin number, that sort of thing, but smaller or less obvious schemes might well slip by me.
