I have heard of mild AS, moderate AS, and severe AS so it is possible. When I hear people say they have a mild form of it, I assume they mean mild AS.

I believe I have a mild version of AS too. Everyone actually thinks I'm quite social and personable but that's just because I'm very good at performing. I have an on/off switch which I turn on at moments I know I'm meant to be social. After these people get to really know me though, they can see I'm a bit off or very off (depending who they are). I have huge problems getting close to people, like being in relationships, or doing anything spur of the moment because of my dependence on routine. I can enjoy socializing as long as I'm given about 1 week's time to mentally prepare for it.

I don't think "normal" people are like this.

From self diagnosis I suspected I had ADD and then after more searching I thought I had asperger's. The more I research though(this forum, looking at vids, read all the wiki article) the less certain I am. I am 100% sure that I am not like the others, I'm sure that I have some sort of condition, either ADD or asperger's. I have a lot of the symptoms of ADD and asperger's but in mild forms, it doesn't seem as excessive as what people describe here. Actually I need to rephrase that, the most excessive things from aspies I don't have, but I do have a lot of stuff that is not as excessive. I don't feel like typing out some examples atm, maybe later.

Every Aspie is effected by each symptom at different levels. It's possible you just have minor AS or just a few AS symptoms.

I was wondering whether or not my brother has Asperger's recently because he's really shy with people he isn't comfortable with and has Aspie-like obsessions, among other things. But when he did the AQ test he scored really low. Don't mean he dosen't have those traits, though.

My son was diagnosed with mild Asperger's this summer at age 16 by a psychologist. She says that it mostly shows up with him in his social anxiety/awkwardness and special interests. He had previously been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, but now the psychologist believes that the anxiety is secondary to his Asperger's.

The diagnosis, by the way, isn't changing much for us in terms of my son's day-to-day life, but does open the door to accomodations that may be extremely helpful for him once he starts university. For example, the psychologist is recommending a reduced courseload and having a room to himself in the dorms.

My son doesn't necessarily buy into the Asperger's diagnosis, because he doesn't clearly fit all the criteria, but his dad and I believe that in the long run the diagnosis will make the way easier for him.
