It turns out that Vulcans are real and that they are being held captive in secret hangars all over the world. However, their "Vulcanness" is caused by genes, not culture. Some of them have escaped and now protect their identities by pretending to be human. Some of them do this by marrying human women. Their resulting hybrid offspring display characteristics of both species. The differences in their parents' genes also cause them to have complications that neither species has. These children are the ones that psychologists diagnose as being autistic.
