When I was in walmart, two days before Christmas, it was terrible! There were so many people and I started freaking out a bit. Some guy ran into me because he wasn't watching where he was walking, I almost cried. I continued walking uttering curses. I try to go to the market when it's pretty empty otherwise I can't get anything done.

I can deal if I am alone and have headphones on. I just avoid people and thread my way through. If I forget headphones I hear every stupid conversation and it is very overwhelming. I also do most of my shopping around midnight to minimize contact with people.

It depends. If you are a tomato, being in a large grocery store is cool.

It you are autistic, I'm thinking the tomato is having more fun.

Noisy, crowded, overly lit. No matter where I go or what I need to buy, there's always someone who will hover nearby or even push themselves right between me and the shelves I'm looking at. I always end up feeling super-frustrated, even angry, and my only goal is to get in, get exactly what I need to buy, and get out as fast as possible. And I constantly curse under my breath at everyone. When I get home I just want to be alone and away from everyone.

I have gone to grocery stores and left without buying anything because on that particular day I couldn't cope with it.

When I was living on my own I could get to the supermarket after midnight and deal with fewer people, which I did as often as possible.

its not to bad for me. i get moody but the noise is not a problem in a store. the worst noise is wen its qwiet then you hear a loud kid or high pitch sounds. i find the sound of alot of voices at once to give me a dizzy feeling but not hair raising like other sounds

I don't think I understand, is the tomato cool because it's in the fridge section?

I quit going to Super Walmart along time ago. I found the beeping at the checkout lines to be particularly annoying, especially when 20 lines were open. I'm not sure that we were meant to encounter that many people in a lifetime, let alone one shopping trip. I would hate to have to work there.

It's easy to get lost in a store like that. I'm waiting until they've finished adding that grocery store to the Walmart that I clean the parking lot of. I can just imagine what the inside of the store will look like.

I go to one with a computerized checkout I only rarely have to deal with the cashiers. However they changed the layout of the store a few months ago after being the same for over 12 years now I can't find anything it takes me longer than usual which does cause me some anxiety.  I some times head right to the old location of some items out of habit and really ticks me off but I am slowly adjusting.

There is another store with better products but they do not have the computerized self checkout line so I rarely go there even though it is the same walking distance.

I HATE when they do that!

Shopping after midnight is a really good idea. I think I will start doing that. I was dragged out shopping a few days before xmas and ended up with a migraine that lasted through the next day.

They just built one in walking distance to me right at the end of summer. It was so crowded in November when I went there and that started me to get flusterd by the anxiety of being stuck in the crowd so I left without buying anything due to the fact I was sweaty and did not want to be near anyone.

I hate it when there's several carts all trying to go in opposite directions at once so it becomes a collision coarse unless I react quickly. Usually I just stop and let the others go first just like I do when I am at a four way stop and three other cars get there same time as me.

The people always remind of the zombies in George Romero's Dawn of the Dead (1976) how they mill around with a dumb look on their faces each wanting to consume get at something.
