Last night my boyfriend was fixing my car for me, working with the coolant pipes. One pipe flicked back and splashed coolant in his face, mind you the car was cold, and I giggled/quietly laughed while he was trying to wipe his face with his shirt.

Then he told me coolant burns, so I rushed to get him a wet cloth. I feel bad for laughing but I couldn't help it. I didn't feel sorry for him until he told me it burns. But then I just felt bad for laughing.

He wasn't annoyed at me or anything, he's used to my weird ways, but still, I want to stop laughing when I should feel more emotion for others.

This is something I will defiantly bring up when I meet with my new shrink next week.

OMG! IMO One of the most CLASSIC Aspie traits!! ! Showing emotion differently whether in intense situations or laughing inappropiately. I do this as well. At the fair my little sister (age 9) was crying I assumed LOL! (she was just scared of the ride no big deal ha ha ha!) Dad then snapped at me NO! SHE FELL WHEN SHE GOT OFF THE RIDE!! ! (I still laughed mainly because it wasn't OMG serious) If it's OMG serious I go into panic mode. When that same sister busted her lip mom asked for a wash rag I grabbed a dry one mom then yelled NO A WET ONE! Also when the child busted her lip a second time I just stood off to the side in the waiting room not showing emotion and did the same for the older sister when she fell (stood off to the side no emotion) Also did it when she was in labor. I tend to show emotion differently A LOT!

I always have a propensity to giggle at weird times. For example, recently in my P.E. class, some students were giving a presentation on STDs, and I couldn't stop giggling throughout the entire presentation. I wasn't giggling because of the presentation, but because of something else that was stuck in my mind.

When I was a little kid, we used to watch the shuttle go up into space on TV at our school. We were all watching that day when the Challenger shuttle blew up, and for some unknown reason I burst out laughing. It wasn't that I thought it was funny, it just happened. Everyone in the class glared at me and there was a silence. I don't even know why it happened, it just did. I suppose this would be an instance of inappropriate laughter.

Planes hit WTC towers I bust a gut laughing it was like the best comedy I've ever seen! (I know it was bad etc) but my laughter you'd think it was a but gusting comedy. Watching the coverage all day and the smoke billowing up etc I couldn't stop laughing. Ya I've gotten strange answers when I mention that story. One friend was shocked like "Really??" and my Psychology teacher said "There are some things you shouldn't tell me Brandy" and she seemed disturbed by it. :-)

I'm giggling and smiling at these replies.

I also kinda felt good inside about the WTC moment, but I didn't want to, I just did. Though I never told anyone I felt that way.

Freaks me out that I think this way :?

Ya for me personally your mind thinks "Are you crazy/psycho etc." Surely only some psycho/killer/sick person would laugh at such a tragedy!" Someone with serious psychological issues!! !! I'm supposed to feel sadness/sorrow and such and yet when Steve Irwin died I was stunned WOW! Steve Irwin! and heart broken. Yet I had a laugh attack on 9/11 go figure.

Then after finding out about AS I understood that people on the spectrum show emotion differentlly and laughing at a tragedy can happen (from a link a WP friend gave me (forgot where it is) other people laughed that day too so it wasn't just me)

Sometimes I do laugh at weird times, like once when I had to see a counselor(depression, self-injury stuff) and I kept laughing when she asked me all these serious questions. I just thought the whole situation was humorous I guess.

Can't say I laughed at the WTC collapse though 8O . But I guess I wasn't sad either, mostly angry.

I find many things funny that other people don't. I find changes funny, and also things that don't happen everyday that require certain 'rules'. If someone grows a beard or gets arrested or visits somewhere new or gets sick I find it all very funny.

I'm very easily amused.

I'm amused at odd things (nothing like being almost the only person laughing over and over in an audience of thousands) and upset by odd things (I've been the only person angry about something that hundreds of other people are applauding).

One time, I was reading an article about two young men who kidnapped an elderly woman, cut crosses into her knees and drank her blood. I told my mum about the story and I was laughing my head off.

Once I was laughing and jumping up and down excitedly while a man was being taken to hospital. I didn't notice and I was just laughing about tapping someone on the shoulder because I thought I knew them, turned out I didn't.

Other times people would be angry and cussing to themselves and I would just laugh.

I've laughed at really inappropriate times...funeral, for instance, when I heard that someone had been hospitalized, when someone is trying to discuss something serious with me, and I even laugh when I experience certain types of pain...It can be hard to control it sometimes.

You didn't really laugh inappropriately there. You didn't actually know that it was burning him.

If you had known in advance, then it would have been inappropriate. But you didn't.

Once someone told me about her brother being accused of molesting his step-sons, and I laughed. I think sometimes I laugh from shock or anxiety rather than humor.
