I think I read someone posting about that a year or so ago. I hope that whoever posted about it will see you post and respond. If no one responds, ask again. Not all of us check Wrong Planet every day. In fact, most of us don't.

Here is a link to a similiar post: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt83954.html. Many of the responses mirror your experience. To me I liken this to kind of a chameleon quality, where we take on the facial expressions, mannerisms, mimick a persons voice, etc. to feel more comfortable in a social situation. I think everyone does it to a certain degree. I think people on the autism spectrum may do it to a greater degree.

If you watch the latest edition of Autism Talks on this website, watch the intensity of Alex Plank as he interacts with the other people on the show and how well he mirrors the other person. Then watch how different his mannerisms are when he is not in a state of interaction.

I never had that experience but your message reminded me of an interesting article I read on Science Daily

Scientists Produce Illusion Of Body Swapping http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 115148.htm

yes yes. but with me this acting is 24 7. its almost as if i dont understand my own actions and expressions and wen i am around r watch a person i feel like i become that person in a sence. it has nothing to do with socail interactions with others. and its not like a borderlines symtoms that are close in that mannor. i think it has to do with fixating on a person , in my case kurt cobain or a singer ect. i compose music and thats all i can think of 6 moths out of the year

Do you feel like you become your music when you compose. This is the way I felt when I created music, I totally lost myself and any problems I had. I felt the same way at times when I was around a person that I felt I could learn things from; I often lost awareness of myself, when I intensely focused on the person.

Keep composing music! Your fortunate to be able to do this; it is a great coping mechanism for someone on the Autism Spectrum.!

It sounds like you are charged with adrenaline from anxiety. OCD is often associated with anxiety. If you haven't tried it as a coping mechanism and are healthy enough, I suggest a regular routine of exercise to burn off the adrenaline. I've been charged with adrenaline all my life. I would of never made it in life if I didn't find a way to burn it off.

yep thats a great way of putting it. i am charged with adrenaline from anxiety esp in the winter. in the summer i walk all night looking for cicadas to study or i sit out alone and fish. in the winter my fixations are not their to persue and i fall apart with cabin fever. if i cant do what stimulates my mind i loose my mind and tend to take alot of benzos and weed to cope

I can do this during this uhm, fantasy thing of mine that's actually my very favorite activity. It's so intense.
Guess it's kind of like a child playing pretend alone.
That's the only occasion I'm able to do it, though.
But I don't want to describe the fantasy stuff because it is stupid/weird. (Nothing sexual, though.)

I feel I don't become them but can mimic their voice perfectly as well as some mannerisms and maybe the same style of clothes. And the hair.

OK so maybe I do become them.

I have mimicked so many accents I'm not sure of my own. I usually have various English accents but I'm Australian. I dress like Luke Smith from the Sarah Jane Adventures or even someone from the Welsh hardcore scene. But then I can mimic my favourite rock stars dress style.
I am a chameleon but I'm still very much my self.

It's like how the TARDIS can make people speaking other languages sound Welsh but it's still a big blue police box with so much strange technology inside it it will always be different. I think these days my chameleon circuit is dysfunctional too. I prefer just dressing my own way. In a way my clothes and grooming habits are my personality. The messy mop of hair, the jeans, the red shoes, the glasses, etc.

I did that when I first joined WP in 2004. I had this thing for Austin Powers and I had all the clothes and the glasses. I did that because I thought it was funny and I didn't want to face reality.
