I forgot Spock and Data! Terrible of me, as those were my favourtie characters, along with Seven of Nine. (I also identified with B'Elanna Torres, as she has identity issues and a short temper, yet is actually a closet romantic. :? :))

Any of the heroes in an Ayn Rand novel probably fit the bill.

Oh and Sherlock Holmes / Dr. House.

*shakes head slowly at Louise* Spock is probably my favourite... or Sulu, just because he loves swords. But that was quite off-topic, now, wasn't it?

Roger (Yahoo Serious) and Sunday in Mr. Accident.

They were living into their world, had problems with social skill, no friends and very clumsy.
Yahoo had a big obsession with taken apart everythings.

I watched Shawshank Redemption again yesterday and I think Andy Dufresne is aspie, he doesn't talk much, he walks like a child in the yard, he gets bullied by the sisters and the warden, he is smart enough to make up a person, he works in the library, he even has a picture of Einstein in his wall and he is happy locked up alone in the hole, playing music in his head. Even his wife said that he was too cold and she could never really get to know him. There's also his obsessions, rocks, the chess set, the library, teaching Tommy, diggin a hole in the wall.

That all sounds like aspieness to me.

I just finished reading "When I was Five I killed Myself" also released in US as "Burt"...The author works at the Adam Shelton Center for autistic young adults.I am not positive if the mane character(an 8 year old boy)has aspergers. He certainly has a lot of traits,as does his "girlfriend" and one of the guys who works at the "clinic" he gets sent to.He is a literalist, spelling champ, verbaly advanced, obsessed with a girl in his class, has tactile sensitivities, melt downs, lack of respect for authorities but also a desire to "follow the rules,be a good citizen, not swear",.....on the other hand, the only obsession they describe is the little girl(but it is intense),he is described as having good hand writing and a good imagination(he has a lot of "fantasies" involving being a super hero.If he is ASpie,it's interesting that they didnt make him a "sterotype" but that also makes it harder to tell the intentions of the author.Considering he works in a clinic with Autistics,I think it is probably based on some of his own experiences?

Interesting, that the book is very popular in France(where he lives) but never made a hit in USA.I would love to see it made into a movie, think it has a positive slant on autism.

You know, I'm not sure if I'm right on this. Maybe Burt from Burt & Ernie was named, after the Burt from the story. Since, Burt does have Aspie characteristics. Such as collecting bottlecaps & paperclips, being very interested in pigeons.

Here's who I'm thinking may have AS:

Lorraine "Ray" Schleine from Uptown Girls
*Has some obsessions and likes nothing else (ballet, for example)
*Not very good at socialization and extremely blunt
*Doesn't see her looks as a big deal
*Proper and a very high vocabulary
*No eye contact at all

Lilo from Lilo and Stitch
*Can't fit in with her peers
*Has some obsessions (Elvis)

I know there are more, but they seemed to have escaped my mind...

There was a thread like this in the Arts, Writing and Music forum awhile back. Possible characters who stick out in my mind are:

Mr. Spock (Star Trek)
Data (also Star Trek)
Mary Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
Mr. Collins (Pride and Prejudice)
Gollum/Smeagol (from LotR)

These are the only ones I can think of off at the moment. Here is a site that contains a long list of more possibilities, though I would beg to differ on some of the characters listed.

Mary Bennet yes (I always felt sorry for her in the book). Mr. Collins, no. He was a pompous ass and a shameless flatterer to his "betters" but he had the skills to get himself a nice tidy little income based on connections (not on expertise).

I think J.D., Elliot, and Dr. Cox are aspies; what about Maldis, the galactic wizard, from "Farscape"?

I read a series of books called The Half-Blood Chronicles by Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey. A couple of characters in them seemed aspie to me. One was Sheyrena, who appears in the second book. She was described as having no interest in fashion, very plain looking, and couldn't really understand the people around her. The other is character Kyrtian and he appears in the third book. He's definitely aspie to me. He was described as eccentric, obsessed with military tactics, doesn't care about fads, doesn't understand his own race(he's elven). I would recommend these books because they're good.

Also I don't know if anyone's seen this show. It's on in the US, called Help Me Help You. There's a character on there named Inger, and it's pretty obvious she's AS. She's lacking in social skills, takes things literally, is quite blunt, she's a computer programmer and loves World of Warcraft. I really love her character. :)

Some others I consider AS or on the spectrum at least

Osaka-AS and/or Inattentive ADD(also my avatar, from Azumanga Daioh)
Sakaki-AS or Social Anxiety at least(also from Azumanga Daioh)
House-The one episode where they mentioned him possibly having AS was the greatest. :)
Belle(from Beauty and the Beast)-AS maybe
Dexter(from Dexter's Lab, gotta love him :))-AS
Matilda-Hyperlexia and/or AS

I'm way too obsessed in looking for ASDs in fictional characters obviously. :P
