I just started a new job and I get the feeling that after the month I've been there, my fellow employee are finding me a bit...odd.
I tell them stories about how long I can hold my breath (1 min 25 seconds [amazing, eh?]), gnomes, lemurs, anthing that pops in my head. I think it's because I am quiet most of the day and it's almost like my head is going to explode if I don't talk. Words just slip. The stupidity just comes out!

Is there a way I can win them back? I want to fit in here and I want to do well and advance at this job.

I'm gonna try and beat 1:25...

[edit] same, I think. I was waiting for for the computer clock to hit 5.36 in order to reach 2 minutes and never made it. I'll make an honest guess at 1.20. OP, I can't solve your predicament other than continue to talk randomly. All my peers except me as a someone that talks a lot of random **** but I am also very friendly and whitty so they've no reason to mind

I'm going for two minutes next. I swear, I won't open my mouth until I've reached that marker!

Some things you cannot undo. Reputation is one of those things. Chances are, you'll have another chance by starting from scratch at a different job.

Do they know you are on the Autism spectrum? That may help.

No. I don't even like to discuss that with my family. 8O

Sigh.

I'm with you. Probably riding my unicycle to work twice during my first week was not a good thing. Then again, maybe it's just as well they found out right away that I'm a little... odd.

You can't undo reputation, but it sounds like so far this has been reasonably harmless, and you can expand your reputation to include such things as "diligent worker" and "great attention to detail" and the like.

The best way to win them back is do a superior job at every task, be on time all the time, keep all your promises and commitments, and limit talking about your personal life while at work. You can always bounce back! Good luck :)

And smile. If you are smiling then they will believe that however you live your life, that your life is working. Then they will be able to better to accept you.

Yes! It reminds me of this play that went on in my school two days ago. There was an instructor in some sort of aerobics class and she was yelling:

"stick them out and smile! stick them out and smile! Smile damnit! except don't smile so big, you look like a bunch of freaks!"
It was a funny piece in the play.

You are right but I still believe a positive attitude, even if a front, can change things. all those corny motivational lines are somewhat correct. But then it is a difficult thing.
