I have my phone so my parents and friends can get a hold of me, pretty much like everybody else. However I rarely have long texting conversations, as those are done mostly over IM clients.
I mostly use my phone for checking news on the internet and emailsin the morning... also it's my alarm clock :)

You sure that's a phone you're touching? 8O

oh yes but snowboarding a glacier and changing tracks on your phone is apparantly the ideal conditions for "exploded phone syndrome", dropping them from wind turbines has a similar result(just working in that enviroment kills equipment quickly, cars included)

point is i dont care enough to take care of them, so i dont care when im careless with them, its a passive agressive thing i guess.

once again people have overlooked what i was trying to say. This thread was about if anyone hated mobile phones and i beleive just one or two people agreed with me.Having something like 30 replies from people stating just how much they love their phones was not the point i was trying to make.I was trying to relate to people who are not fortunate enough to have social lives and who may own a phone but never receive any texts or incoming calls. This forum so far has only made me realise how distant i realy am from even the aspies. It is hardly helpfull at all tbh.I am yet to encounter anyone who feels like i do and this post has just undoubtedly proven my point.Mobile phones are a big part of society nowdays(especialy to teens) but if you are like me without a social life and own a phone you may even wonder why do i own a phone? For people like me it is just a pointless gadget that sits untouched in the draw.At least it was until i smashed it.Obviously even aspies love their phones so it must just be me........

That's quite a rant - maybe you don't really hate mobile phones, you hate that it reminds you how lonely you are? The phone is not responsible for that, even though it would hurt to have one if it is never used.

I don't love my phone, I've always tried to avoid phones, but I have to have a mobile phone for my career. I do find the calendar feature on it handy to know where I need to be for my next meeting etc. but I seldom talk on it, I prefer to email my business associates. I never or rarely talk to family or friends on a phone - communication is always by facebook messaging, emails and texting if I'm not with them.

i did agree with you in a way.
i hate the inherrent expectation that people can reach you at all times, people say i can just turn it off or not answer, then they get pissed about that, solution, no phone.

Actually, the way your OP read was more like, "I hate mobile phones. Do you, too?" A reply of, "No, I love mine" is just as valid as "Yeah, I hate mine, too."

For my part, I neither love nor hate mine. I wish I had not gotten an Android, though - I should have stayed with a much more basic phone. I generally text my boyfriend in the afternoon, asking him what he wants me to fix for dinner. It is common for me to only make/receive 2 or 3 phone calls, total, per week -and that is all the use the phone gets.

So, as you can tell, I'm hardly a social powerhouse myself, but I see no reason to get mad at my phone about it. I'm not saying that your perception of it as a frustrating reminder of your minimal social life is unfathomable - I can understand how it could grate on one's nerves. For me, though, it's just a tool. One I don't need very often, but one which is quite valuable on those rare occasions on which it is needed.

I went about 4 years without a phone until I got one about 2 months ago. I figured I'd attempt to have a social life once again.

My attitude towards my phone seems to mirror my attitude towards social engagements. I want to be invited to them but I don't want to attend.

I want people to call me, but I dont want to have to answer or talk on a phone.

I use it as an ipod more than a phone which was the biggest selling point for me as my ipod died recently.

I hardly ever use my phone as a phone. I think I've used eight of my mandatory 450 minutes this month, all of which were my mother calling me. I use my phone as an internet device more often than not. I prefer an Android phone since I can run various Linux utilities on it that I may need.

Me too. My iphone is my one of my lastest obessions. I love having google at my finger tips and being able to find out information anywhere I want.

I have to admitt I don't like using the acutall phone much. I get streesed if someone calls and I'm not expecting it and haven't had time to rehurse the conevrsation in my head, but then I just don't answer.

Texting is better coz I can think about what to say and there is no pressure to reply back instanly.

I have absolutely no social life whatever - zero, nada, zilch.
I exchange the occasional text message with my sisters, and I get a monthly automatic message from my service provider telling me my new bill is ready. Although I have a GMail account, I only rarely use it on the phone to send myself the odd test email when I'm tweaking stuff on my server.

That's the only use the communication functions of my mobile ever get.

So, in short: stuff the communications abilities - that's not why I got it at all.
I got it because it's a great toy, period.
And toys are good, right?
