I do use that word to refer to something, but I don't know any of the other words that could be used to describe it (or even whether there are words that can describe it well). Certainly not most of the things people are saying in this thread. It's more a thing that happens and grows in response to certain events, but I can't be more specific than that.

I know at least one person here has debated my concept of faith. I choose to not get into debates on WP anymore over certain topics that cause me anxiety---and this one causes me anxiety. The thread was on our definition of faith---and I defined it for me. I would add that faith concerns matters that cannot be proved to exist and cannot be proved to not exist. Please accept my definition as my personal definition and belief and respect my wishes to not debate it---I find debating personal beliefs leads nowhere.

Faith is when a person can believe in something even when there is no evidence to support it (as in religion). It can also mean that you trust someone no matter what they do or what they might do (having faith in somebody, for instance).

That's how I use the terms.

Faith, to me, is something that I believe people are welcome to. I have faith in experiment and evidence and - frankly - am in awe of those who believe in its' absence.

Faith is a word that has been fetishized and abused. I feel sorry for faith.

I find that I rather envy those with faith. I can see how faith was essential for human kind to build a productive society - it assuages the fear of the unknown, it removes the need for answers for those things we cannot answer, it permits people to move forward despite their fear. Whether faith is in a god, a political leader, one's tribal shaman or hard, cold science... faith soothes fear.

Faith is believing in something based on how it affects your personal comfort level rather then what is actually real or provable

i'm a person of faith, not just by my religion. faith to me is believing in what is beyond your logical comprehension which enables you to break through limits that are known to you, whether internally or externally, and achieve the impossible whatever that maybe..

and hi guys..

An abdication of personal responsibility to determine/influence the nature/outcome of a particular ideal/event.
