Why? As long as people are responsible when they drink (by which I mean not making an arse of themselves, attacking others or becoming a danger to themselves) where is the issue?

The drinking age should be lowered and a less repressive and more realistic attitude should be taken towards it.

Shutting youths out from pubs hasn't helped matters here - it has only alienated a section of the populace. Pubs used to be the 'people's parliament' here - no more.

I could murder a pint. :(

I have a very low tolerance, and being tipsy or buzzed is not fun or pleasuable at all to me. I hate it. I only ever drink beer. I drank a lot of beer once and had a great time, and made socializing so much easier, but I was in no condition to drive.

I have a very, very high tolerance, as in 30+ oz of vodka only makes me a little tipsy.... except with wine, for some reason one glass of wine and I have trouble standing up.

I used to drink a lot but not so much anymore. If you drink a lot you build up a tolerance and can drink much more. I often feel ill when I drink now and stop after one or two drinks. It also seems to cause joint pain. The type and quality of alcohol makes a big difference.

It makes me very sleepy too. If I go out (which is rare) I drink rum and coke. Caffeine negates the drowiness. It's also a good idea to have solid food in your stomach before drinking.

Neither can I.
I can't stand the smell. It makes me feel ill.

Being surrounded by drunk people and alcoholics being sick or other things doesn't help either.

I have zero social life and am petrified by the unpredictability of drunk people especially drunk men yelling at me.

I can't stand the taste of alcohol or the smell (it smells like something that has been rotting in the back of my fridge for a couple of months). I've tried to like it, but I can't. Everyone thinks I'm some uptight Baptist or something and people don't believe me when I say that I don't drink because I can't bear the taste of alcohol.

I've never drunk enough alcohol to know. I don't like the taste, I can act crazy without any chemical help, and I don't hang out with people who put pressure on me to do that sort of thing.

A few times I've had a few sips of a high-alcohol drink and immediately felt less articulate and less coordinated, but it could just be a psychosomatic reaction to my fear of getting drunk. It could also be that I have very little tolerance for alcohol, but if so, I have no way to know if that's caused by the AS or by the medications I'm taking for it.

I am not against people having one or two drinks, but I don't the idea of excessive or underage drinking. And I am contrary.

I don't dislike people with drinking issues or anything though, I hope they will be able to overcome it.

Try something low in alcohol that you might like. Going straight for the high alcohol stuff is suicide.

Something like this…

People quite often used to (though not so much now as the style is rather unpopular these days) drink a few pints of the first one and then go back to work. It's pretty harmless stuff to be honest with you - slightly roasted, malty and coffeeish with the promise of something more.

I'm not surprised about most people on this thread don't like the taste of booze if the first thing they go for is something that's 40% ABV!

I’ve gained a certain amount of tolerance to alcohol over the years. I couldn’t drink red wine, but persevered and now I can drink a bottle no problem. Nothing to brag about, though – the only reason I do drink is so I can talk to people. Not very good, in the grand scheme of things :( .

Taking Adderall (and now Vyvanse instead) has raised my tolerance a bit higher. However when it comes to shots, forget about it. After three I am literally spaced out...which generally leads to more shots, puking, and one raging hangover the next day.

Sadly, drinking alcohol is a stim for me. It makes me feel more alive (and it tastes pretty good to me too). Because of the amount I've drunk I have quite a high tolerance for the stuff.

Though I do lament though at the wasted time, and brain cells, caused by the demon drink, I have made a few friends by sharing a beer.

Each to their own, I guess.
