I went to a family get together today.

I had to sit at a table with 3 members of my family and 3 children in my family, 2 of which are mine.

One of these people was my ex-sister in law. she was married to my brother but they got divorced. She has a child to him because she stopped taking the pill and didn't tell him and they were already separated. ANYWHO...... This hambeast(sil) started going on and on about how she is a nerd. The two other adults in my family said that each other were nerds first which i agree with, 2 doctorates between them. Hambeast though, hasn't finished high school, has never worked at a job for more then 3 weeks and dropped out of an online IT university course during the first semester. She thinks she is a geek because she has an ipod playlist that is thousands of songs long, plays sing star every night and goes on forums about wow.

She is not a nerd.

She is a sad person with no life or future outside her child.

Does anyone else know any NT people like this?

Is it wrong that I read the title of this thread in my head as Michael Jackson would sing it?

She's a ferd (fake nerd). Since being nerdy is now beginning to become cool, people like her are becoming more and more common.

In fact, she sounds like she fits in with these...

Why do you even care? Besides a geek and a nerd are two different things. And I'm pretty much a nerd even though I didn't finish high school as smoothly as most people. I'm a very uncool nerd too.

Anyway your whole post is very judgmental toward your ex-sister in law.

What about Dweebs? Ferbs? Blarts? I don't think we can exclude any of those species from such a conversation.

She's intimidated and has to feel like she belongs so she says those things. It can be annoying but don't be so hard on her she is probably very lonely.

I don't understand your problem.

Interesting. So what you're saying is that you cannot be a nerd without having great success at the education system and jobs? The other stuff I get, but that being mandatory to being a nerd isn't something I've heard of before. I guess I could see people equating being good with math and that sort of stuff with automatically doing awesome in schools because that's what schools are all about, what you know.

I am completely confused about the "proper" definitions of nerd, geek, dork, etc. I've heard people say geek is good, nerd is bad, and I've heard others say the opposite. I don't think it really matters in the end. The thing I don't get is why people want to identify with persecuted minorities when they were born with the privilege that those minorities weren't.

Geek? Does she bite the heads off of chickens? If noot, she isn't a geek. She doesn't match the other meaning. Nerd? NO WAY!

BTW anywho is NOT a word!
