When I was younger I was much more sensitive to caffeine, and I couldn't really drink coffee or anything, let alone soda...
Then I used to drink a lot of coca-cola, and that would work.
For 5 years I did smoke excellent weed, and only when I was low on tolerance did I ever have any slight panic attacks, but I knew I was high so it would never bother me. I've been clean for close to 7 weeks and this time I'm about done for a few years at least probably.

Anymore though I really depend on coffee, just like alcoholic beverages I don't care about the taste. (once I had a binge with brandy where I drank a full 16 oz cup or slightly more on an empty stomach then I used water as a chaser and then I had a meal. As I was eating I kept getting more drunk and I felt my tongue buzz and numb until I was just acting kinda stupid sitting here in this chair last year.)

So lately I've just been drinking instant, for a while I drank way too much, say like 2 or so tablespoons worth and that is about 6 times the normal amount. I literally felt high from it but it was unpleasant sometimes and I would still fall asleep if I missed a lot of sleep. The blood constriction in my brain was so bad though it made it hard to focus or really think straight. So I abstained and went through headaches for 2 weeks, partially due to a sinus infection. I started drinking coffee again and I started off at a teaspoon now I'm up to a full tablespoon and my tolerance is getting to the point where this triple strength coffee still doesn't give me the jitters or anything. Feels really nice, to be honest. I rarely get migraines and yesterday I did so I took a few ibuprofen and slept it off for about 6 hours, so to reset my sleep schedule I'm just going to drink this coffee and hopefully I can make it until I fall asleep tomorrow night.

Caffeine works really well for me, but what bothers me is I'm starting to grow more dependent on it as the days go by. It's hard to go without the fatigue I usually feel without it, but otherwise I'm fine. Caffeine is a non-selective adenosine antagonist so if you drink caffeinated beverages early enough or take caffeine pills, you can actually delay and slow the rate at which you get tired enough to be able to fall asleep. 8)

So if your really sensitive to caffeine I suggest you get instant coffee and start off from a quarter teaspoon and gradually move up your amounts day by day by a few granules. Eventually the dopaminergic and glutaminergic effects which are felt as the stimulation will gradually normalize until you can actually get a benefit out of drinking a regular cup of coffee a day rather than being on some sort of legal speed that makes you go on a jittery trip.

That's just my 2 cents on this. :P

what the.....are you serious about the amount of instant coffee?? i put a spoon and a half in a cup......otherwise i just dont wake up in the morning lol, i stay blanked out and nodding to everything. i have two kids so i can't really go by with half a spoon :lol:
and i drink maybe 4 cups a day. that may be why i have those stomach burning feelings sometimes........

That's awful! Caffeine is my favorite drug! :( I have had some bad reactions to medications, however. Lunesta made me hallucinate, and Lamictal gave me freak show acne. I am still trying to get rid of the scars. I also can't eat mango peelings because they cause me to have poison ivy-like rashes all over my body.

I am very sensitive to caffeine. I get very anxious and get the shakes, my voice even becomes jittery.
I have given up all forms of caffeine now. I found a big improvment in my anxiety.

I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine too, I've never drunk tea, coffe or coke but I have a terrible weakness for dark chocolate. I can only eat about 4 pieces of it at a time (as in about 10g worth) and only first thing in the morning but it still leaves me hyper and feeling pretty sick for the rest of the day. It tastes so good though that I can't help but have it a couple of times a week.

Coffe and sugar and some pain killers all affect me. Coffe sends me reelly high.. riased heart beat and hyperacctivity . That's normal for coffee I hear but I get like this with only one cup.
Sugar sends me high and then I get a crashing low it's awful I get all teary and depressed. I stay off sugar because my boyfriend get's worried if i'm like that.
Ans morphine based pain killers, codine etc knock me for six. Itake the minimum dose and i'm away with the fairies for the rest of the day.Maybe my body just isn't use to these chemicals.

Coffee puts me to sleep.

It's a good thing to not drink coffee on medication. I remember I took hayfever tablets and I started acting peculiar.
I'm really sensitive to medication.

i wish, my tolerance is actually really high for no particular reason. that's just extra money spent to keep myself up throughout the day because i don't sleep ):

when i ingest a lot of caffeine, i love the jitters and the non-distinct anxiety. it's practically the opposite of my typical lethargy, kinda makes me feel alive.

I suffered from reactive hypoglycemia. When I had too much sugar or refined carbs too much insulin can be secreated, way past the point when the meal has been digested, So initialy I would start with a hyper state as sugar levels go up, then a failry rapid drop in blood sugar, as insulin increases. At this point I felt irritable and confused. Reactive hypoglycemia is said to mimic many psychological conditions.


I had this problem for a while, but kept off the sugar and refined carbs and eventually it improved.

The old medicine coffee, caffeine compounds (100 mg), for me temporarily reduces distractibility a little and temporarily increases attention span a little (not a cure). For me, caffeine works for my ADHD Inattentive better than Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall and so on. Caffeine is sold as a food in the grocery store section and as a FDA approved alertness aid (medicine) in the pharmacy section of the same grocery store. The chemist who discovered caffeine was awarded the Nobel prize over 100 years ago due to the importance of the caffeine molecule. Reactions to caffeine are known to vary widely from beneficial, to neutral (some people drink coffee for the taste), to unwanted (some choose to avoid it). That's why one person can say that caffeine works for them a little and the next person can say it's horrible, they prefer other beverages. Both are right. People are different. Caffeine is a known weak drug. Caffeine is everywhere. Even Santa Claus drinks it - evidence: Santa's picture on a Holiday 2010 can of (regular) Coca-Cola (caffeine content: 34 mg/12 fl oz). Compare to (regular) Pepsi-Cola (38 mg/12 fl oz). Caffeine is the most widely used psychoactive substance on planet earth (although many coffee, tea, and soft drink companies are reluctant to talk about it much). Many doctors know next to zero about caffeine and routinely skip over caffeine to promote much stronger stimulants such as Ritalin (due to brainwashing by the pharmaceutical companies in their doctor training). Many doctors have almost zero training in nutrition and regularly overlook good nutrition (or even try to make fun of nutrition as useless).

This sounds like me. Thing is i LOVE chocolate. I'll have to keep off it in large quantities. Do you get a sort of rasberry jam taste in your mouth just before the drop? I only experience that when excercising after eating sugary things.

Although back to the topic. I had some tablets with cdine and caffine in them for pain relief the other day. That was not a good idea. I was hyper AND brainless. Boyfrien has banned me from having them again.

I battle with chocolate addiction too. I avoid it as best as I can. If I have any chocaolate its always in large quantitys, I can never stop at one piece. I only stop when the entire block is gone, and then look for more. It might be the caffeine in chocolate that makes it so addictive.
I do my best to keep everthing natural and avoide caffeine and sugar. I went and spoke to a doctor when I was conserned about my hypoglycemia symtoms just to be on the safe side. incase something else was wrong.

I get very hyper on caffeine especially coffee and no one believes me. They say I'm faking. I wish it was fake. I practically bounce off of the walls and I feel like I can run 1000 miles and maybe 1000 more.

I'm not too sensitive to caffeine - but I drink coffee only in the morning or afternoon. I drink tea at any hour of the day.

I think I'm sensitive to caffeine. It makes my feel overly excited and hyper. It seems to linger in my system for a long time. If I consume cocoa, coffee, or tea in the morning, my sleep quality is poorer and takes longer to sleep in addition to the diuretic effects. Even the topical application of cocoa butter or green tea extract in moisturizers seem to bother me.
Some sites say it is because the phase 1 liver detoxification is underactive and therefore the half life of caffeine is longer. I guess I'll check with a holistic physician.

I am so sensitive to caffeine that my doctor told me to avoid it altogether because I sometimes wasn't sleeping at all, at night!
I DO, occasionally, eat chocolate chip cookies, or drink chocolate milk, though. :) I love the taste of chocolate, and sometimes have to indulge myself!...
I also know I inherited this problem, because my mother can eat or drink something caffeinated, and it is a strong stimulant for her, too!
*sigh* Makes me wish I weren't so sensitive to it. My wife can drink a whole pot of coffee and STILL sleep within minutes! :(
I can definately understand caffeine sensitivity!
