Why is it so wrong to love animals more than people?

I was thinking about this subject of animals today because in the past my daughter has accused me of being more affectionate towards the animals. I apologized to her for it, explained that they are easier to pick up and cuddle and have nice soft fur LOL. She is a big girl now and I cant pick her up and do that stuff to her anymore. Nor does she have fur. I love my dauighter more than anything.

But I cant say the same for the men who have come and gone in my life. It is another story for them . I really did love the animals more. My ex husband was really angry about it. I had to go away for two weeks to a military school, and I left him money for the cat's food (he wouldn't buy it) and asked him to feed the cat while I was gone. When I flew back home a coworker picked me up at the airport and we went to Walmart, where my husband worked, to buy something. He was horrified that I was back already and asked why I didn't call him to pick me up-(duh, he was working!). So I go home and there is no cat food and no cat. When he got home he had a bag of food and tells me he hasn't seen the cat in while. I never saw the cat again. Two weeks later he was heading back home to his mom with his belongings and I never saw him again either. I wonder what he did to my cat, but it is probably better I don't know.

That totally reinforces why I love the cats more than most humans. The cat just loved me. He would follow me around, come running up to me and jump into my arms when I would come home. He never bothered my ex.

At no time would I get rid of my pets for a guy. I don't think I am capable of loving a man enough to send the animals packing. And they make allergy medicines for pets allergies so that is no excuse.

I agree with you there. Of course animals are better to pick up and cuddle. And kiss, too. Plus, they never grow up. My kitty lives in eternal kittenhood.

How could he have done something like that?! That's so horrible!

PunkyKat, your mom probably said that because you hurt her feelings. She loves you more than anything, and you love...a lizard (who doesn't do all the things she does for you, like feeding and housing and clothing you, etc.) No doubt she was offended by you saying that, and tried to justify her own personal feelings by generalizing about it being "wrong" to love animals more.

That's my number one hypothis that she had her feelings hurt. She said it's okay to love animals, just not more than people. I do love my mum, she just gets on my nerves a lot because she thinks I am ten years younger than I actualy am and that I can't do the things I want to do.

That is lovely and I completely agree. It is the way I feel about my cats and all cats in general.

I'd take a bullet for my cat.

If someone hurt my brother's two American Bull dogs in front of me I would end up in prison and the attacker's mother would weep for what I did to her offspring. Lets say it would not be an open casket funeral.

If there was a burning building and I had to choose between rescuing a human or a cat, I would choose the human (the cat would be more likely to be smart enough to get out on it's own). But, if I had to choose between a cat roommate and a human roommate, the cat wins hands down.

Not really sure but I feel the same way. Usually am indifferent about people, especially socially but I love most animals. Animals accept a person just the way they are and most people are judgemental about things that are different. If I were you I would trade your mom for a chinchilla or a monkey.

I think there is nothing wrong with loving (non-human) animals more than humans. As long as you are not harming humans, then I can't see what the problem could be.

As for becoming a vet, if you can get a place on a course then go for it. Its very hard in the UK to get into vet school. You could always consider becoming a zoologist if you are good at biology but not so good at maths. Or a zookeeper. I briefly worked with meerkats when I was doing a zoology course.

I prefer computers and robots over humans and animals. They're generally more user friendly. That being said, I would still give up my computer if I had to in order to save anyone's life (within reason of course, not Hitler). I don't enjoy the company of other humans, but that doesn't mean I hate them.

I think a lot of people think I don't like people at all because I am willing to talk to cats, pet them, and hug them. I find it easier to talk to a pet because there really isn't any social norms and animals rarely reject their owners. They give you unconditional love while my experiences with people hasn't been too well and I've encountered rejection and am lonely wishing I can be with someone but realize it is nearly impossible for me to communicate with people even though I long to be with someone, especially a woman.

Among all animals I like best dogs.

One common false belief about animals is that their love and affection depend on feeding them. How false it is, really.

My father takes care of his rather hyperactive dog, but when I see this dog, he is so joyful, I would say more than with anybody else. I play with him, pet, cuddle him. Also, I'm consistent with my directions and the "who obeys who" thing, applying only the minimum amount of force to achieve this, using symbolism a dog understands. I hate doing any harm to animals. However, the dog listens to my directions just as well as my father's. If only humans were so easy to get along with... sigh

Although I like animals in general, I'm not sure I would be able to care for an animal in the long term without help.

Animals do not talk and they possibly all have Aspergers. Cats are well known for being independent, aloof and introverted typical traits of Aspergers.

Animals do not cause us as much problems as human interactions. A pet is a great companion for a person with Aspergers Syndrome.

When I had to put my cat Felix to sleep a few years back (6/10/08 trust me I know the day) I cried harder than I think I even have at a relative's funeral.

Other than a very small, select group of people, I would usually pick animals over people any day. Especially cuddly animals (not a particular type, just critters that love to cuddle)

 now I miss my kitty. Darnit
