What's you obsession and why do you find it interesting?

Never sure if I should clutch my jaw or my wallet when leaving the dentist!

Creative writing, astronomy, sci fi such as Doctor Who, Stargate and Star Trek.

Creative writing - it's practical; I hope to publish something soon. It also helps my writing skills and I have to learn a lot of things for it. I like to learn. It also keeps my sanity. Really. I get a real high from a successful day of writing.

Astronomy - It's challenging. It's also peaceful being out there with the stars and being able to locate objects in he sky and log them down leaves me satisfied. Hopefully one day I will be able to see a celestial event. Most times I witness then I don't have my telescope. So far I've seen a comet, a meteor shower and a partial lunar eclipse.

Scifi - It's like an escape from the mundane. I really wish I could have adventures like the ones I watch. The highest paying job, the biggest social circle and anything else this world has to offer isn't enough.

All three interests all work together to help me write.

There's also physics which excites me for some reason or another, and it helps me write too.

Basically all those interests are about collecting facts and creating something out of them.

-Building architecture and skylines: I can stare at them forever in amazement
-Quantum physics: It's just so interesting to me
-The French language: I love the sound of it and currently learning it

Stop-motion animation. When I was seven in 1977 I saw the Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. I was completely floored when I saw the cyclops walk across the tv screen. I really freaked when I saw the cyclops fight the wizard's dragon. I sat there looking at the puppets move around the screen then I became obssessed on trying to figure out how Ray Harryhausen got those puppets to move around. It took me about fifteen minutes of extreme thinking to come up with an answer. I understood how Disney made their cartoons by drawing one frame at a time from watching a documentary about it so I figured they photographed or filmed the puppet one frame at a time. Funny thing was I figured how to animate puppets but could get my head around tying my shoe laces.

Tim Burton's movies - Oh gosh, where do I even start? There's just something so magical about the cheerfully dark atmosphere in his movies, and his signature style really appeals to me for some reason. I absolutely adore the characters in these movies and identify with them, because they are almost always outcasts and they also tend to have both comedic and tragic aspects to them. There's also a big sense of familiarity between all of his movies since, like other directors such as Ed Wood and John Waters, Burton tends to bring along the same people in most of the movies he does (most notably Johnny Depp, Danny Elfman and Helena Bonham Carter).

Pirates of the Caribbean - I initially got into this film series because of the Johnny Depp obsession I acquired as a side effect of watching a lot of Tim Burton movies. It's seriously difficult to dislike Captain Jack Sparrow! But besides him, I also like the scenery and costumes because period pieces are among my top favorite types of movies due to the element of escapist fantasy they bring. I also enjoy the ship battles and sword fights because they get my adrenaline pumping.

ABBA- I remember when I first saw them on countdown and then they came out to Australia for the TV specal they did I was hooked and wanted every record they did.
They were so talented and they were very photogenic how many people could write songs in another language.


CATS- I think that would have been when my Dad brought home a little kitten that we had for 13 years I have a little ginger and white cat now.

ANIMALS- I was fascinated with animals and loved going to the zoo its sad theyare in cages but modern zoos are trying to make their enclosures like their normal habitat .If It wasn't for zoos a lot of them would be extinct.

I guess because I like cooking and gardening they could be thought of as obsessions and crosswords I like doing them as well.

UFOs and alien abductions
I find them interesting because the general population think it's all a hoax yet the scientific evidence is that "something is happening" is overwhelming.

My number one interest, which plays into my life basically every day, is birding.

My main interest is FPS gaming and computers. I am a sponsored professional gamer among the top in my country and I am highly skilled in predicting and deceiving enemy players as well as mouse control / aim. But I do have major problems working as a team and communicating.

My other main interests are martial arts, weapons, body building and parkour. Those four all go together nicely.

Lately I've been interested in cosmology, quantum mechanics, black holes and mathematical theories, inventions, alternative energy sources etc Before that it was UFO's, conspiracy theories, wikileaks, the group 'anonymous' and hacking.

Not really an obsession but I'm fascinated by maps, sometime I just look at google maps for a good hour for the sheer heck of it.

I'm obsessed with The Kinks, because they're the one British group that didn't go psychedelic in the 60s and they recorded songs about things that I can relate, instead of just love and relationships all the time. They also respected God and Jesus where as John Lennon said that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus. I also look like Mick Avory did in the beginning and have similar morals that he had, and my opinion is all that matters in regards of my looks. I see myself in the mirror throughout the day. I should know.

I Love Lucy- No real idea how to express why this is my biggest special interest and always will be. I just love the characters, the one-liners, the clothes, the plot situations, the banter among the four main characters, and the overall cleverness and detail of the show. I've never been able to properly express why Lucy is my greatest love. There's just something about it, and I can't quite ever put my finger on it. And, of course, I love memorizing trivia from the show. I particularly enjoy being given a number from 1-179 and being asked to name the episode title right off the spot. I love when something has a number/trait/etc that has a definite association, where you can inextricably link the two and know that it "feels right."

YouTube series "Is it a Good Idea to Microwave This?"- My favorite part of this series is how each microwave girl is given a name and a personality. I love seeing how the girls differ from one another and what their overall legacy and contribution will be. I also love the suspense of knowing what the verdict for each experiment is going to be. Will it be a good idea? Bad idea? Something unique and unusual? Like today's episode- I can't wait to find out what the verdict is going to be. Will microwave Gabrielle surprise us and do something wacky? Most people watch the show just to see microwave explosions. I couldn't care less about that. I love the details and statistics that the nature of the show gives rise to. I love calculating which microwave girl lived the longest, who had the highest percentage of good vs. bad ideas, memorizing the numbers that correspond to the microwave order and the episodes (similar to Lucy here), which season had the highest percentage of good vs. bad ideas, etc. And it's always exciting to find out when and how a particular microwave girl will die or be retired and chronicle what her first and last experiment were. This is the show's last season (the last episode will air in July), and it's going to be a sad thing for me. I've enjoyed the excitement of new episodes for over two years now, and not having any new microwave girls to look forward to meeting is going to be a major letdown...

But overall, as I mentioned above, I get the most enjoyment out of being given a statistic/trivia number and being told to instantly recall it. Like, what was episode #93 of I Love Lucy? ("The Diner," if you're going by broadcast order. "The Black Wig," if you're going by filming order.) Or who was microwave #22? Sarah, the Sharp carousel, from season 8, the first microwave of the season. Listing these things excites me for whatever reason.

Football, Loved playing aged 3 to 25, went to Matches Home & Away. Money taking over thesedays though ie Rooney paid £250,000 a WEEK!! !! !! !

Ufology, it covers just about EVERYTHING.

Psychopharmacology.
It's fading a little now. D: But it has been for the past two years or so.
I was reading 'sex, drugs and chocolate', a book on the neuroscience of pleasure (in the popular science section, so not too technical!), and I just found it magical that there was a /reason/ drugs got you high and that the meaningless propaganda was just that... Meaningless propaganda. I found it kinda' magical that something as explainable and studyable as a certain molecule etc could have such profound effects on the human consciousness.

I love hearing about people with obsessions. It makes such a refreshing change from people who just seem to amble throughout life!
