Two of my big passions are travelling and writing. I've decided to combine them by going on a road trip this summer throughout Northern Europe and writing about my experiences. I want to focus on what it is like for an aspie travelling (I am an aspie) but also what it is like for aspies living in those countries.

So I'm wondering if there are any aspies from Belgium, Netherlands or northern Germany who would be willing to meet up with me while I'm in your country. It would probably be in late July/early August. These are the places I have researched that might be good to visit:

Belgium - Bruge, Ghent

Netherlands - Utrecht, Delft, Haarlem, Amsterdam, Groningen, Maastricht

Germany - Bremen, Hamburg, Lubeck, Schwerin, Berlin, Hannover

My idea is that if you live close to any of these places, you could come and show me around the sights and you could also talk about your experiences of Asperger's and I would make notes for my book.

Thanks everyone, Kerry

Hey Kerry,

I'm new to this site, and just started looking around really.
But I read your topic, and couldn't help but reply.
I live next to Amsterdam, and love to come there all the time. I cannot assure anything still that far away, but I am definitely interested.

Though I am not the sightseeing-kind-of-guy and could probably only show you the things locals (like me) like, I could tell you everything you want to know.

Not sure what else to say for now... but feel free to ask me anything, if you're interested.

Oh, and yes, I can speak your language obviously. No worries there.

Greetings, Lucifer from Amsterdam

Unfortunately not, BUT I LONNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG to go to Germany, Austria, Hungary, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and The United Kingdom. I want to travel to these countries not only because the histories and cultures of these nations are fascinating, but for a sense of belonging as well. Not only have I not "fit-in" socially, but I have NEVER fit in physically either! I am a walking stereotype for someone who is of Anglo-Saxon/Scandinavian descent (6'5", slender, blond hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion). My stature and appearence made it all the more easier for my enemies in school to recognize and remember me. Nonetheless, I would NEVER trade what I consider my unique characteristics in for NOTHING!

Thanks for your quick reply Lucifer. I understand that it is a long time away, but I'm really pleased you are interested. Don't worry if you'd rather not do sightseeing, I'd be interested in seeing some things the locals like and chatting to you is the most important thing :) I will PM you with some more details.

Thanks, Kerry

You should also try and go to Finland because it is such a beautiful country. I've been there a few times because a friend of mine used to live and work there. It was amazing and I fell in love with it.

I am a German Aspie, and we can phone or mail, but I am now in the republic of Ireland because the first job I could get was located here...

You're welcome, it all sounds quite interesting. It must be nice meeting a fellow "Aspie"...

Thanks, I'm hoping to meet people on my trip but I will contact you again if I can't find any German people to meet up with :)

And yes Lucifer I think it will be very interesting to meet up with other aspies. I've never really chatted to other aspies before :)

I live In Belgium, about 30 mins away from Ghent, where I go to school (I dropped out years ago, so redoing it). I'm not all too familiar with Ghent, but nothing a map/gps can't solve. Hit me up in a private message or so to exchange emails or so. I'm quite careful with people so I'm a bit afraid of bad intentions, so rather get to know you a bit first heh.

Sounds interesting and exciting to meet someone who would understand me though. :)

Thanks for your replies guys :) I'll send you a PM. Of course you have to be careful meeting up with people from the internet, that's why I wanted to find some people now so we can have a couple of months to get to know each other and know it would be safe.

Haven't found anyone from Germany yet???

I'm from Belgium, but I live in the Netherlands. During the week I stay on boarding school near Antwerp (Belgium), of which I know the centre a bit. I'm only in the Netherlands in the weekends and during vacations and I do not visit the nearest cities (Utrecht, Rotterdam) often, practically never. Although I live 20-30 km from both of them. So I'm afraid I can't help you in terms of showing you around. By the way, I just planned a trip to London from the 7th till the 17th of August so maybe I won't even be at home.

Hi,

I live in Ghent. You should definitely visit it, it is a wonderful city. There are lots of cool places around here.

I can show you around Ghent too, now you have 2 guides for Ghent :) .

Maybe you dont know but from 16-25 july there are Gentse Feesten in Ghent, this is a huge party all over Ghent with al lot of stages with live music, but very busy, some people like it but not a good idea if you dont like busy crowds.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting an aspie from another country.

Greetings, Jivi

Hi, thanks Jivi. I'm away this weekend but I will email you in the week.

For anyone else reading this thread I'm only visiting the Netherlands and Belgium now. I am still looking for another person to meet up with in the Netherlands if possible.

Thanks,

Kerry
