I'm a 23 y/o student just about to graduate university and get started with a 2nd degree/master's. I've had a lot of trouble academically over the years. A lot of this has to do with my OCD (which I am diagnosed with) as it interferes with school a lot. I am currently receiving accomodations from the disabilities center at my school because of the OCD, but my grades are still very questionable, mainly due to spotty attendance. I see a psych. nurse practitioner who suspects some kind of high functioning autism although I guess she isn't or doesn't consider herself qualified to diagnose it. She thinks I should seek a diagnosis after I move to my new university.

What should I do? I don't see how an autism diagnosis would make any difference since I'm already getting help w/ my OCD. Just wondering if anyone has any similar experiences or advice.

In your case it might be helpful. The accommodations for OCD don't appear to be doing the trick for you. Universities are one of the few places that give extra effort to those with disabilities and you should take advantage of it as much as possible. Paying for an evaluation might be a problem, though.

OCD may in fact be an incorrect diagnosis. It is often co-morbid with autism, but sometimes autistic perserveration is incorrectly identified as OCD. Also, sensory issues can be a big problem and these would be more likely to be addressed with an autism DX.
