I filed a claim for benefits back in January. I have the full spectrum of symptoms pertaining to Asperger's. I also have it documented through my psychologist and psychiatrist. Asperger's has in one way or another prevented me from sustaining a job, let alone getting one. I was wondering if anyone has been approved for S.S. benefits..

I've been collecting benefits for 11 years.

Yeah, I was approved pretty quickly. But just being on benefits doesn't mean you can't work toward getting a job. It's way below poverty level and I really wouldn't wish it on anyone who didn't absolutely need it.

LOL! You should rather ask if any one is NOT collecting SSI or applying for it. :D :D :D :D

I wanted to say this.

I'm applying, but due to issues with diagnoses, undiagnoses, and rediagnoses, I haven't been approved. I would have so much preferred to hold off the application process until, say, April, but as I am getting state benefits, they required me to file an application before I had any treatment history or diagnoses recorded beyond my initial screening.

I am not sure how often they say "We assessed you as disabled, you now must apply for SSI to get off state benefits, because otherwise you never will" to people.

Though I live on very little and don't have a job (and can't), I am not poor enough to apply for SSI.

I had applied for SSDI years ago, before I even suspected I might have AS, because of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, but I was turned down. I now no longer have the qualifying credits from working to ever apply for SSDI again. And since I'm not working, I won't even get Social Security when I am 65, unless I become poor enough to qualify for SSI. It's a totally screwed up system.

(If anyone knows different I would love to know if there is any way I can get disability.)

I am the unemployment insurance freeloader of the world. When I get dispatched to a job the Union sends me as well as other bad workers. Because the Union sends me the job referral I never have to go to an interview and I go right to work. Usually I get fired before the end of the week but if I work less than 40 hours I get to keep my seniority on the out of work list. I get fired from 10 jobs in a row but since I never work longer than 40 hours I make it to number 1 on the Union out of work list. This means I get first dibs on all of the jobs because I am the first worker they call whenever there is a job. Eventually I get a job that lasts longer than 40 hours and when I lose that job I go to the bottom of the out of work list.

When I am on the bottom of the out of work list I do not get called to work so then I collect unemployment insurance. This is how I make a living and people acusse me of taking advantage of the system.

The system isn't screwed up - it's deliberately BRUTAL. The holes in the "social safety net" are big enough to drive a Hummer through, which is why so many die homeless in the streets of the "greatest country in the world".

Meanwhile, sneering criminal bankers pay themselves a billion dollars a year (and pay only ~15% tax on it), even as they destroy the economy, wipe out millions of jobs, throw tens of millions of men, women and children out of their homes, wipe out pensions, savings and investments, blow up the national debt, etc.

You can try to qualify for SSDI under a parent's earnings record (qualifying credits) - this benefit is called CDB (used to be called DAC - Disabled Adult Child).

You have to have been disabled before age 22 and not done any "SGA - significant gainful activity" since then. SGA is a tricky concept - there are exceptions to the general rule, so you'll probably need a GOOD disability attorney to help you qualify.

Good luck.

I do but I have high functioning autism and ADHD... along with extreme and severe anxiety. I am unable to get a job because of anxiety reasons which also tend to conflict with HFA and ADHD. So I am an SSI for it as well.

I have (are you ready for this?) "moderate" autism, OCD, agoraphobia, GAD, mood disorder-NOS, ED-NOS, tics, conversion disorder (mostly nonverbal), type I diabetes with moderate neuropathy, and severe IBS. No guarantees I didn't leave something off. And I was turned down. I got a lawyer, waited 2 years for the hearing, and now the hearing is June 17th.
