I don't believe AS types are particularly intelligent and In the complete guide it mentions that AS types can have remarkably uneven IQs. But If you have a very low IQ, you get put into a different box.

It's just taxonomy.

It's pretty common for an aspie to have high IQ which helps them in certain interests areas which could help them in terms of picking a well-paid career. Aspies with average IQ's are average folks who are just getting by in this world. In this case, Aspergers hinders rather than helps. I want to know what everybody's IQ is.

the impression I get is that there are loads and loads of people with aspergers who have average IQs. However, I'm not sure about

The media are very keen on portraying high intelligence as our redeeming trait, but in reality I think autistic people can have all kinds of positive traits linked to their autism. To give a few crude examples, I find autistic people can be less manipulative, more honest, more logical etc etc etc
None of those things will get you a six figure salary, but someone will value them.
Would love to see more positivity about aspies with normal IQs.

I have two cousins, both of which are 10 years older than me.

One of them did well in school. People thought he was a genius, and praised him for being so smart. When he got to college, he gave up and quit because it was too much work. He argued that it was a waste of his time; he thought he didn't have to do it. Ever since, he's been fired from many jobs, all of which have not paid well. All he wants to do is go out and party, and look where that's got him.

Another cousin was the exact opposite. His father abused him, he did poorly in school, and he was bullied. His mother was unable to take care of him; he had to do everything himself. He was forced to take up responsibilities that most kids never had to think about. When he graduated from high school, he went on to college and became a pharmacist. Now, he has a house, a wife, and he is making a salary in the hundred thousand dollar range. Nobody ever told him he was a genius, nobody ever thought he would do well in the future. It's ironic how things work like that.

I've been told I was high functioning autistic because I "wasn't smart enough" to have Asperger's. I was given a cursory IQ test and scored a 119. I don't believe the guy who told me though.

Same for me. Until very recently I thought the average IQ must be AT LEAST 130, because I thought I was pretty stupid, at best average. I tend to underestimate myself in most things.

I don't know my exact number but I know it's somewhere between 115-120.

However, I am not very good at math and science so probably couldn't get into any of the jobs they recommend for people with AS. My special interest is a specific band so it doesn't really have a skill associated with it. Music maybe, but I prefer listening to music over playing music.

I never got a specific score but I would say it wouldn't go much higher than 100. The test was tiring too and I usually need meds to stay on a task for a long time. And my mental arithmetic is bad. And I didn't have glasses. And my mum yelled at me during the lunch break so for the remainder of the test I was stressed out. I did really well with the visual portion of the test. Then they diagnosed me with severe depression and stress, so maybe my performance was affected by that.

After I did the IQ test it all changed though. I got deeply into science and after I got my glasses I started to read more, and after I got on ADHD meds I taught myself year 12 physics and year 10/11/12 math. Then I forgot it.

I recently did a free IQ test that I bought and got 111. I got really bored at the maths part though.

If you ask people that know me they'll say I'm smart, maybe because I just tell them about everything I read and my ideas for my novel (which is really something to them because I had a learning disorder) and my psychiatrist says I'm intellectual. Not sure how he can get something like that from only seeing me for an hour every 8 weeks when I'm dog tired of being in a waiting room for 2+ hours.

I feel smart because I'm curious to know everything and get interested in things for a few hours to a few weeks, and there's my special interests which last months to years which I know everything about. Well, almost everything.
But when I was younger I was below average. I never took an IQ test but I failed the basic skills test. Maybe it was just unmedicated ADHD or lack of interest because my knowledge of the world back then was nothing more than knowing about every breed of dog and how to draw Lion King Characters from memory.

Apparently I was said to have been tested as "gifted" as a child, which would mean more that 130. A more recent testy though (WAIS III) give somthing like 110-115, which is very low compared to what people having discussed with me think of my "intelligence".

Tested and was in the 140s when I was around 8 years old.
Last test I took, Mensa, I was around 155/160.

I've never taken an official IQ test. As a child I naturally excelled at all of my subjects. However when I was in 6th grade long division started tripping me up. I later had difficulties in both math and science courses. When I try to study science I just can't commit it to memory. I truly don't understand math above algebra even now. In school I would always do algebra "my own way" and even when my answer was correct the teachers hated it. There were things that I was interested in but wasn't grasping the way that they were taught (ex. drafting) but when I asked teachers "Is there another way to do this?" they would say "No, you have to do it this way", which I now realize is very limiting but I didn't know I was like this then.

This led to me not taking challenging math classes. When everyone received their SAT scores back mine sucked. I had a near perfect score on the language section but the math was so poor that most of the less intelligent students in my academic classes still had higher overall scores (they were all yelling their scores back and forth).

So, I'm definitely uneven skills wise. I think that I could comprehend some more stuff but the person teaching me the skill might have to work outside of the box or show me "another way".

I'd say I'm about average. I don't care about being "highly intelligent" anyway. I have my talents, I'm creative, and I'm happy so who gives a crap! :D
