I went to the dentist today. I have been given a course of antibiotics for an infection located where my right upper wisdom tooth has started to emerge. If the infection has not cleared up by next week, the tooth has to be removed. All my other teeth are terrible, they did not respond to the orthodontal treatment of my youth, preferring to go their own way when my dental braces were removed. I had hoped that my wisdom teeth might fare better, but now at least one may be denied the opportunity. Pressing my tongue against the area of my gum, the fluid expelled tastes irony.

I definitely suggest trying to find a dental school in your area. They are very understanding about anxiety when it comes to dental work and are very willing to accommodate you however they can. Plus it is much cheeper and since they are new they are very good about listening to concerns you have about your teeth. They want to do a good job and be helpful. Plus the teachers check everything before and after so you can get very high quality work done.

Try having a dentist for a dad like I did. You simply cannot avoid the chair. What was even worse was when I was about 17 and he recruited me to serve as his assistant for some free work he was doing for our housekeeper. I was OK until the blood and goo started oozing and squirting. Once I saw that I had to leave the room and get some water. When I returned my dad laughed and started joking about how green I was looking around the gills.

I went to the dentist on Monday. I had 2 cavities filled. I felt the whole thing but luckily they were very small cavities. I hate going to the dentist and fear the dentist. Even the sound of the drill hurts. I actually feel it. At least I am taken care of for the next 6 months until the next cleaning. I even hate the cleanings because that is when you find out you have a billion cavities. I get cavities extremely easily because I have bad teeth. I take care of them and still get a lot of cavities. Sometimes when they numb me for a filling it doesn't work at all and I feel everything and it hurts. I don't like pain. Other times it works fine. Then its just the sound of the drill that I hate. My brother even has more cavities than I do. Once he didn't brush his teeth for 4 years (yes you read that right he is lazy) and he got 30 cavities. I grind my teeth but don't want to get a bite guard because I am afraid of swallowing it in the middle of the night (even though I know it might be impossible) but I don't like something in my mouth in the middle of the night anyways.

I have a pronounced gag reflex, so I've always detested visits to the dentist and positively loathed the entire four+ years of orthodontia. The negative experiences were also compounded by something I'm wondering is an oddity of just mine: Does anybody else have difficulty in determining how wide they're holding their mouth open? After what seems to be a very short time, my mouth seems to start slowly closing of its own volition while I'm thinking I've still got it open to the same 'width'. I almost never realize it's closed nearly down to my teeth actually touching again until the dentist barks at me to 'open up, will ya?!'.

I just went to the dentist. I don't mind at that much, the only part I don't like is when they scrape your teeth with that metal thing. I hate the sound!

Oh hell... don't even get me STARTED. Dentists are like a living hell for me. I walk into a dentist and the next thing I know... I'm either walking right out or having a meltdown in the dentist's chair. They won't even see that I need a pediatric dentist for my fears because of how extreme they are. Insurance won't pay for it because insurance doesn't care. It angers me because my mom can't even get me to walk into the dentists office without crying. It's so bad that My parents have had to stop taking me to a dentist because of the fear. What's worse is in order to do anything or much less, pull out any of my teeth... they have to put me to sleep because they won't do the novacaine.

I mean I bet if I hadn't moved, my old pediatric dentists would have looked after me even now. Because he know my fear and also my special needs too. I've been terrified of dentists ever since I was three. But no one seems to even understand how hard it is for me.

I haven't been to the dentist in 22 years. Fortunately I have good teeth, with no fillings.
It's been more than 10 years since I've been to a hairdresser, due to touching and social anxiety issues.
