the feds will not tell anyone if you're on a watch list.

During the conversation, he plainly asked "Oh, so you weren't planning on flying this airplane into a building or anything? Haha"
its a crank phone call.
No, it wasn't. Joking is a normal part of NT conversation.
And... the 'organization' that called clearly obtained personal information from yahoo under their request and visited my cousin at his door in person, which would have been one helluva dedicated and freaky prank caller.
The FBI doesn't normally call an individual to personally investigate them, they either send official documentation or visit in person. It is a felony to impersonate an FBI agent over the phone. You should report it to the FBI. They can at least check their call records to verify to you whether or not someone from the FBI called you.
From what you have stated it sounds like someone you may be aquainted with heard the story about your cousin, and decided to play a prank on you. I'm not questioning the validity of what happened to your cousin, but you can solve the question of whether or not it was really someone from the FBI, by calling them. You have nothing to lose by calling them, if they really did call you they have no reason not to give you confirmation.
The fact that they talked about putting you on a watch list and joked about terrorism with you, does not sound like something the FBI would do in an official investigation by phone or in person. This is reason enough to call the FBI to see if it was real or not.
Sounds like something one of your schoolmates who has a deep voice might do; but if they did they are pretty stupid to do it, because it's a felony to impersonate the FBI.
If you call the FBI and they state this "phone investigation" was real. I will be very surprised. My opinion at this point is there is little chance it is real from the information you have presented here so far.
