I hate talking on the phone and I downright refuse to leave a voicemail. I would rather call someone over and over without end than leave one.

I have serious problems talking on the phone. I forget things, trip over my words, go completely blank and forget stuff. I can't seem to do it and I don't know why.
I'm ok with talking face to face, texts, messages, but I can never seem to talk on the phone. For some reason its impossible to me.

I'm okay if it is someone I know well. My mother, my girlfriend, that's fine. But for others, I really really hate it. I get anxious and try to run my distinct "phone-politiness-routine", which makes it sound awkward and often don't leave time for the recipient to speak. I prefer texting, since that is just words you have to read and understand - no voice-deciphering to find out if a comment was meant as humorous or serious.

I don't mind talking on phone. Sometimes it's even easier for me than texting.

I am not fond of phones either. It's hard to hear on them and the background noise is awful and I don't like having to stop everything just to talk on the phone. I also get nervous when I have to make phone calls and I hate making phone calls. I also tend to keep forgetting too and keep putting it off.

When I decide to call my parents, I have to remember to call them or plan it.

The problem is, that my brain does not have a "PAUSE" button, which evidently NT brains do. So when the phone rings, or a text comes, it does to me what doing a shutdown/cold restart on a computer does. Everything on my brain's desktop is gone... Closed without saving work, etc.

So relatable!

Talking to people in person for people with AS is like a normal person trying to get around in a wheelchair. We can do it, but it's harder. But talking on the phone is like taking me out of the wheelchair, and throwing me on the ground. You have NOTHING to go.

That's genius!

I don't have much trouble talking to friends on the phone, but with relatives it's a drag !
I'm from India and here we don't leave home after 20, we stay with the parents. After they understood about aspergers, whenever we were supposed to call a relative, I asked them to give me an update on their latest happenings. Then I had a few points to talk about, even if I still sounded awkward!

I hate talking on the phone as well. The only people I talk to is my friends. Sometimes when talking to them I don't know when its my turn to talk and we talk over each other. I never talk to strangers on the phone. My mom however, loves talking on the phone. She is very good at it and makes the appointments for me. I am too scared to do that. I wouldn't know what to do. My brother who is not autistic doesn't talk on the phone that much to make appointments but he loves talking to other people he knows. I get nervous on the phone. I don't like the ringing sound of the phone either and it makes me jump.

That happens to me too. I accidentally talk over people when I talk in person, let alone on the phone. My mom makes all the appointments for me as well, but since I'm 18 now, I'll have to start doing that on my own, and it terrifies me! I wouldn't know what to do either, and I feel like I should know what to do, so it embarrasses me when I don't.

I prefer to talk on the phone. No eye contact and don't have to worry about gestures and body language.
