I have very poor handwriting skills, both printing and cursive. But I also like fountain pens and dip pens, and often feel that I ought not use these fine instruments when the result is so sh***y. I am not trying to do calligraphy or write fancy, thought I wish I had better handwriting. I simply prefer the feel and also the idea of a superior instrument over the mass market crap commonly available.

Anyone here have similar thoughts or feelings?

My handwriting is, um, interesting though pretty legible. I'm also not looking to become a calligrapher but I love good pens because they appeal to my senses.

At some point in early adulthood I stopped writing in cursive and returned to printing. Now my printing is barely legible. Nonetheless I enjoy the feel of a quality pen and always have one with me so I won't be forced to use a cheap, germy "public" pen.

1662bcp, I'm completely in favor of using the pen you feel comfortable with, even if the results aren't that impressive.

I'm very picky about the tools I use. I have lots of bic atlantis click pens, because i always lose or become distracted by caps, and I use two TUL .5 mm mechanical pencils which are weird so I can't let anyone else try to use them.

My printing is decent, mainly when I am really focused on what I am writing, but the only thing I've ever used cursive for is signing my name. I've heard that some school systems aren't even teaching it anymore, as it is becoming obsolete. Some people argue that it is worth teaching so people don't have to rely on it. Others argue that if that is true, we should also teach our children how to hunt and gather so they don't have to rely on grocery stores.

My handwriting has gotten quite messy due to my years of typing. Much erasing commences. If the occasion absolutely warrants permanency, and I'm arsed to take the effort, I write something out with a pencil and then go over it carefully with a pen. And it had better be a pen that flows easily, so that my hand can glide effortlessly.

My handwriting is horrible, and I struggled to pass my music class a few years back.
