Anyone ever look up schizoid personality disorder?

1. neither desires nor enjoys close relationships, including being part of a family
2. almost always chooses solitary activities
3. has little, if any, interest in having sexual experiences with another person
4. takes pleasure in few, if any, activities
5. lacks close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives
6. appears indifferent to the praise or criticism of others
7. shows emotional coldness, detachment, or flattened affectivity
- marked insensitivity to prevailing social norms and conventions.
- excessive preoccupation with fantasy and introspection;
- limited capacity to express either warm, tender feelings or anger towards others

And...

I'm 99 percent sure that's me...

When ever I take "for fun" personality disorder quizzes online I always get this.

Same here. Except there are two things in the above list that do not fit me at all:

4. takes pleasure in few, if any, activities
5. lacks close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives


There are a number of activities in which I take pleasure. Movies, travel, playing with the cats when I am over at one of my friends' places (the one who has two cats), my weekend RPG games... I even like my job (most of the time). And I do have two or three people who I can count as close friends and confidants, who are not related to me in any way.

Plus, of course, I am very bad in interpreting non-verbal communication...

How could you live your life with few interests? Interests/obsessions are what keep you sane and occupied.

I was diagnosed both schizoid and avoidant before I got diagnosed with autism. Thing is, I always face up to what I feel like avoiding, heh.
It is true that both those disorders have parts that fit me as well. Doctors should be very careful about mixing either of these diagnoses up with autism.

Not me. I have several extremely close friends (and my first-degree relatives are least likely to be my confidants or anything like that); I may be calm and imperturbable but that's not the same as cold or detached; I may be overly affectionate towards others, it's just that it doesn't always come out right; and inability to feel joy - that's definitely not me.

I seem to have more of a cyclothymic/cycloid personality, but without the enhanced sociability or ability to get along with others easily, with some dashes of socially avoidant, passive-agressive and sensitive (what Kraetschmer called "mimosa type").

What I found strange is that some Russian autism specialists basically equate adult AS with schizoid personality, and state that there may be differences only in childhood, while in puberty or adulthood somebody with AS is no different from somebody with a marked schizoid personality. Apparently, this doesn't quite add up.

I fit all seven of those to some degree, and oddly enough I diagnosed myself with it. I think I did that when it was late at night though, reading the schizoid section at the psych forums and just seeing all the similarities and posts that I could have written I just came to the conclusion myself.

I still think I'm probably more aspie than schizoid though, or maybe somewhere inbetween. I see here that most aspies want a relationship with people, but I've never wanted that. Also reading about schizoids it seems that they get little pleasure out of things, but I definitely get pleasure from my obsessions. So, in truth I think I'm a mix of both.

I've also posted in the forum, and it seems like schizoids do have a lot in common with aspies. They believe they have social inadequacies, whether they are real or not.

I don't know though, can a person be both schizoid and asperger's?

I don't fit the criteria for schizoid personality disorder, but I do fit the criteria for schizotypal personality disorder.

• suspiciousness or paranoid ideation;

• lack of close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives;
  
• excessive social anxiety that does not diminish with familiarity and tends to be associated with paranoid fears rather than negative judgments about self.

I fit the criteria for schizotypal personality disorder.

I too fit those criteria to a high degree.
Also, I did some kind of online test a few years back, a test that evaluated many different disorders. My score pointed toward schizotypal in that test.

Perhaps it's time to see what a real doctor has to say

This is what I actually went to get evaluated for because of my social problems...I scored high on the evaluation but the Dr. kept insisting I had Asperger's...and I kept telling him he was wrong.

I remember sitting there playing with this ring I had just bought where the band spins...I was nervous about the evaluation and decided to wear the ring thinking it would keep me from playing with my hair. "Do you have an repetative motions or stimming?"...."Nope...never have"

Eye contact can be a learned behaviour, especially as you get older...eye contact can be hindered if someone suffered abuse or emotional trama...personally I don't think eye contact should count for much.

I fit some of the things for schizoid personality disorder, but not all..I think asperger's shares some of the criteria...but maybe not for the same reasons as would be typical in someone with a true schizoid personality disorder.

4. I don't find social activites pleasurable, other things are fine...I have an interest in way too many things for my own good.

6. I don't like critics unless the critism is warranted.

7. I have a hard time displaying emotions...it doesn't mean I don't have any....but I guess I appear cold at times.

Are schizophrenic disorders co-morbid to autism and AS, or can neither Autism/AS and Schizophrenic disorders exist within the same person.

Schizo's are rare. So your just aspie.
