Things happen that would normally only upset me but now send me into meltdowns. And my meltdowns have changed-or at least my last one was different. Normally I just get overwhelmed with emotions and have a crying spell. My last one was yelling and angry.

And I'm depressed and not sure if that is making AS worse or if AS is making depression worse and making depression re-appear after I had been over it for a while.

I'm so frustrated. I know I could switch this to The Haven but it is in this forum because I want to know if you have AS or Autism that is worse at times than it is at others.

And if so, how fast does it change? Worse days? Or worse weeks or months?

Are you tired, or getting less sleep recently? Generally if the more tired or irritated I am the more autistic I act, and its a bit of viscous cycle. I need to get some sleep. My sleep patterns were completely messed up a few months ago and they are getting worse, and even though I act a lot less autistic than I was in the past, I believe I'm acting more autistic now than I did a few months ago as with less sleep I can't think as straight and have less restraint.

Are you stressed out these days? Depression can make things worse too.

When I am stressed out, my AS does get bad. That is why I always try and find the easy way out of things or avoid things that causes stress and why I get lazy. I just can't handle stress well.

Uhura, you're a woman, right? Your profile says 38, and that's a little young to be going into menopause, but not unheard-of, and your symptoms sound like that could be it. Just something to think about, tain't necessarily so....

I agree with the previous posters-
any kind of stress, and most people revert to a "base" state of being that's most natural for them.

I had a heated conversation with a friend earlier today, for more than an hour, and I'm quite positive I didn't look him in the eye once.
I've been feeling more emotional of late, and have noticed I'm even more sensitive than usual to overhead lighting.

Not to say Aspie-ness doesn't fluctuate seemingly out of nowhere, but I can't imagine that maintaining proper sleep hygiene, a good diet, and low stress levels wouldn't help.

I agree. Do you have new stress or something triggering this?
