But what does my mom get at the very last minute? Something you'd get for a kid: Halloween-themed white cake with matching white frosting. She also got cupcake liners.
I freaked out.
I finally resigned myself to the thought of white cake (hard for a chocolate lover to do), but put my foot down about baking it in cupcake form. She said she thought it would be "fun", and told me that it was originally what I wanted-- which isn't true, since I specified chocolate from the very beginning, with cream cheese frosting. She's wondering why I'm not happy.
Do people never listen?! :? It's like she just heard the word "Halloween" and ran with it.

Maybe she couldn't remember so she had a false memory.

Argh, that is annoying. :x
I'm curious, though, as to how much you freaked out...did you go into a meltdown or did you get angry and huffy for a while, but then seem calm afterward?

Still a few days to go. Plenty of time for you to buy and make what you want, and for you to apologise to your mother.

That sucks! I love chocolate, too, and I'd be disappointed if I got white cake instead of chocolate. Fortunately, if I tell my mother I want a chocolate cake, she listens. Did your mother buy a cake mix or a whole cake? If she bought a cake mix and it hasn't been opened yet, you can return it at the store. I don't know if you can return whole cakes or not. And the whole Halloween cupcake thing does sound kiddish. Maybe if you were five....

I'd be pissed off as well.

My mom wouldn't have returned it, I'm afraid. I'm in the middle of baking it right now, to get it over with and out of my mind.
I didn't go into a meltdown or anything like that. More like I was overflowing with frustration. "But I said-- but I wanted--" was the gist of my reaction, combined with walking around in circles with a distressed look on my face. Haha.
Anyway, I apologized to her for it, and all's well.

The cake was disappointing.
It was too plain and sugary. Only a little kid would be able to appreciate it.
I wish I could throw it away. :(

Ugh. If you had wanted a white cake with white frosting, then you would have said that you wanted a white cake with white frosting.

Yep, I would have totally thrown a fit too. And I might not have apologized later. If you specifically said chocolate, then she just ignored you. VERY frustrating. I love chocolate, and a white cake is NOT in any way a good substitute.

Was this a cake for a party, or just for you? You didn't make that clear. If it was for a party, you could have gone out and bought another cake. Parties have lots of food to pick and choose from. If you don't like one thing, you eat something else. If it was just for you, and you already baked it and ate it, then there's nothing you can do. Next time, buy your own cake. And apologize to your mother.

Dude, I did apologize, and I mentioned that returning the cake wasn't a possibility.
The cake was my idea, but both I and my parents eat it when we have one. My stepdad will be the one to eat most of it, since he's a big eater.
Good news-- on Thursday, my mom's getting proper chocolate cake mix and frosting. Maybe she realized her cognitive mistake.
