I find myself getting bored easily... and then, according to the NT people around, "I push their buttons, agitate, aggravate, and just plain annoy them" and people start screeching, screaming and occasionally swearing at me. I apparently drive people nuts... (sometimes I don't even realize it.)

I hate being too smart for my own good, and getting bored too easily.

How can I cope with being bored (there isn't much constructive for me to do here) , but try not to shake people's nerves? It's to the point where it's becoming dangerous and I could be harmed eventually (ie saying the wrong thing to the wrong person and having them harm me.).. it's also affected my housing situation (I am the worst roommate ever.)

Any suggestions? I don't have alot of people around who totally "get" the Asperger stuff. I have had people explain things to me, but for some reason it occasionally goes over my head.

Thanks in advance!

ETA - My computer access is spotty at best (my netbook is being fixed, my desktop is in storage, and I have alot of basic needs issues going on) so it might take me a bit to reply.

As far as roommates, maybe be attuned to when they need alone time? For example, some people are nonsocial when they first wake up in the morning. Some people, even if they occasionally talk while watching TV, mainly like to just zen out or veg out in front of the TV.

And boredom, it has sometimes occurred to me during low periods I have been "unbooked," meaning I have not had an interesting book I've been working on. Well, that magical book which really peaks my interest is kind of few and far between. I can't make myself find a good book. I can more be open to finding it if I happen to come across it.

And maybe down the road a phone that has access to the Internet, which will likely make restaurants, campus sitting spots, etc, more interesting.

That's a good idea, whenever I get a roommate... I'll have to write those times down, since I tend to forget very obliviously. :(

True, I'm a wierd oddball who talks too much sometimes.

Thanks for the advice!

You're welcome. And I think talking a lot is generally a good thing, just a time and place kind of thing.

And roommate situations just tend to be tricky.

Just a quick comment:
What I heard is that smart people never get bored.

Don't you think that if supercomputers had feelings, they would get bored of doing simple addition and subtraction all day, instead of calculating pi to the hundred billionth digit?

Bad analogy. A computer, as it is today, would not care less. Why not a lazy one that finds it nice to roam in the idle-loop? That one would not even want to do 2+2.
But that's how it is with computers. There's no such thing as "nothing". It runs full speed all the time. Some stuff just takes more energy.

You could find a special interest and devote all your spare time to that.

Let me emphasize with personal experience. I am virtually never bored. I have done my tests, an I score well above the 2-percentile for Mensa. I score well above the 1-percentile that is envied within Mensa. I have several patents and designs that runs in the world today.

I don't get bored. There's always something to plan and/or design.

This is one of my special interests. It is also one of my savant skills - posting random crap on the Internets. But many people have this savant skill.

So then I guess it's all down to how much you enjoy it.

Numb your mind - either with practice and discipline, if you're old enough numb it with alcohol, and - if you're old enough - some combination of both is typically optimal.

Alcohol. That's my medicine. It's sad, but I must do something to dumb myself down to be able to survive in this zoo called "society".
