How the heck does any of you other aspies make it in life? People give me crap and call me ret*d and stuff just for being in their vicinity, although I don't even seem ret*d at all. Anybody else have this same problem? How do you all get by without feeling like you're on the Highway to Hell everytime you go to school or somewhere?

I deal with that same garbage as well. I have people make those same presumptions about me, just because I'm a Tomboy and I don't wear clothes that are sexy, or have long hair. I don't sound ret*d, either. I sound British and I'm proud of that, but there are some people out there who confuse unusual Accents with "Speech Problems". Their words, not mine. I look foreward to the day that I can walk down the street, wearing the Unisex clothes that I feel comfortable in and not be called the dreaded R-Word. What's even worse is the fact that there's a little boy who lives right on my Street, who does that to me. I don't even take my Dog for a second Walk, after Dinner anymore, because of that Monster Boy. I'm afraid that if he mocks me again that I will murder him.

LONG HAIR IS STUPID, BORING AND OLD FASHIONED! That applies to everyone unless i've stated otherwise.

anyway, I don't always get called it, but I know people think it. I can see it on their faces.

If anyone calls me ret*d they can rot in hell because there's a 99% chance they're more ret*d. (i'm intelligent).

What's that got to do with this thread?

I have to agree that this has
happened to me alot. It later
evolves from elementary
tauntings to...."Your stupid"
and repeating yourself for
their pleasure if you HFA,
If you AS it might translated
as being gay.

Our feeling and emotions are
conveyed differently than NT's,
Thus there comprehensions
are tainted by what they
experience on the media.

Do these observations apply
to you? Do you agree or
disagree with them? If
so feel free to add on to them
or even counter them.

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter

It's been awhile -- I've been out of school for 25 years 8O -- but it used to happen now and then. It happens a lot to my 11yo son. "ret*d." "Weirdo." "Gay."

Why??? He's probably far more intelligent than anyone they've ever met. Maybe he's "weird" because he doesn't use profanity or enjoy vandalizing private property with a black sharpie marker? "Gay" because he doesn't hit, trip, or harass the girls at the playground?

Why can't people just keep their mouths shut??? Jealousy? Stupidity?

Ignorance!! !!

No I don't agree with them, as I am NOT ret*d, and am DEFINATELY NOT gay (I don't even look like it or act like it).

I've had to convice a few minors before that I would disregard the law and that their physical well-being was in jeoardy if they didn't leave me alone. So far it's worked.

everyone except me, eh, hale? ;) :)

i've been called a lesbian before now. it doesn't bother me, as i don't think of it as an insult, and so don't feel the need to deny it - vehemently or otherwise - which is just another form of homophobia.

let others deal with their stuff - you shouldn't have to. theirs is the problem, not yours. just remember that you know yourself, and they don't, cos if they did, they wouldn't say it. they're just frightened by difference, by any threat to their own sense of self. leave them to it.

I was called gay by girls a lot at school for not walking around with my tongue on the floor all the time (never by boys though - I suspect the fact that I'm 'kinormous might have had something to do with that ) - I've never been called ret*d though as I'm outwardly quite normal in manner and appearance (with a few small quirks ) and have a radiating intellect obviously far superior to anyone else who might for whatever reason want to call me ret*d. 8)

Hotwire,

I was defending you. I was saying
I am familiar with taggings of "names"
and see that it is wrong. I am sorry
you mis-read how I conveyed this.
This was not intentional.

Sincerely Sorry for being mis-read!
