I used to have Plastic Slinky's of all different sizes. I would hold one end with my thumb and the other with a finger and sort of shift them back and forth. For hours and hours. Or I'd use both hands. Didn't realize what I was doing was stimming until right now. Huh.

I used to "pour" the metal Slinky's back and fourth. What the heck do you call that? There should be a name for it! I had moved on to other things when the plastic Slinky's came out. I think I tried one once or twice. They have a very different feel and sound when "shifting" them as you call it.

Re. stim pets: I used to have hamsters. Anyone who has held a hamster knows that you can't easily hold one in one hand. You have to "shift" or "pour" them from hand to hand since they burrow through the fingers of one hand to try to escape. On the other hand  they are silent (unlike Slinky's.)

My stim toy is a small chain that I took off of one of those wallets with chains. I play with it all day, and it has a keyloops on each end so I can put my fingers through it. Fun! :D

As a kid, I use to make these things made of nylon plastic and broken pens I played with all the time. I didn't know I was stimming until a while later when looking at things on youtube. I then began to find other stim toys that were smaller and more managable for me to have. I now use rubber wristbands I like and play with them in my room in right hand like crazy. I have alot of them in my room just in case since I keep my hands busy with different things like writing, playing guitar, and playing video games. LOL!!

It's like I can't go to bed without it in my hands. It's a bit hard for me to explain why, but it's my favorite toy; even though I'm 21 years old in college. You can never be too old to have something you love! LOL!!

I now have a new stim toy wristband I bought for Christmas that has 'iRenew' in the center. Best self gift ever!! The stim toys I have helped when I needed to calm down especially in places where I can't jump around to the music I listen to.

Stimming also helps me think better since I stim a lot, along with imagine things better with it in my hand while listening to different music on my mp3 player.

I used to be a huge fan of shiny strong magnets. And I mean they are really strong... The can find another magnet within 20 cms. They are made in different shapes, and make a huge clacking noise when they stick together. Even nts like them a lot. Another thing I like is slinky, but it isn't easy to carry around. I also like to mess around with rubber bands, ribbons and mechanical pencils. And bounce my glasses...what do you call it, the rod over the ears. Mine are bouncy. Fun fun fun.

I am really into finding and collecting stim toys. Some of my favorites have already been mentioned (tangles, slap bracelets, slinkies, etc). I also have one of those stress ball type things that you squeeze except that it is shaped like a cow and his eyes pop out and click.

I used to chew on my pens all the time so I have been working on finding chewies. I live near the Autism Shop. They sell pencil/pen top chewies that are made out of medical tubing.

I also recently found Chew Beads. They are designed for moms to wear to have their babies chew on them. However, since they look like jewelry I can always have it easily accessible. They are made of silicone so they have a really nice bouncy elasticity to them They satisfy the chewing need but don't wear out your jaw.

Other things I have (with links):
Springy Tube
Du Beads
Thermochromic Glux (Silly Putty)
Poppers
Galaxy Balls
Tea Tree Oil Chewing Sticks

I love Tangles. I'm a "heavy user" so I'm already on my second one since September, but I don't know what I'd do without a Tangle in my pocket. I feel naked without one.

For a second, I thought you were talking about being a "heavy user" of whatever drug "Tangles" is a street name for.

Let's see....

I chew on the inside of my cheeks, lips, etc.
I chew the cuticles of my fingernails.
Pocket knives, they are good to flip open & closed. I especially like the automatic "out the front" knives that you can rapidly deploy in and out.
As mentioned earlier, a "multi tool" is a great play thing. It also comes in handy when you need to fix stuff.
Flashlights, I love flashlights. I usually carry 2 or 3 on me all the time. The brighter the better. (I have lights up to 1,000 lumens)
The neomagnets that were mentioned....although I use higher-quality version from another company called Zen Magnets. These are mankind's greatest invention. Hours upon hours of endless joy.
Anything sharp & "pokey" I like to rub my fingertips on sharp things.....not enough to damage my skin but the sensation of sharp things is amazing.

I have more, but not enough time now to mention.

A thick string (the kind they have on hoodie sweatshirts). I twirl this in front of my face. This has always been my main stim since I was a toddler (I made myself stop even in private for a few years as an adult but then started again during a bout of depression). This is one of the most consistent things in my whole life.

I also like to feel soft and fuzzy things...plush toys certain blankets etc.. sometimes I rub them against my face too....just at home in private though.

I use just about anything nearby that I can get my hands on as a stim toy.
