I'm new to all this. I know I'm probably not alone in having been misdiagnosed with everything from ADHD to bipolar to kitchen-sink deficiency syndrome (kidding). I've been on all sorts of mood stabilizers and antipsychotics, but none of these regimes seem to work as well as a simple SSRI combined with a beta-blocker (a type of blood pressure medication). I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences, and if this particular regimen could help others.

The SSRI (in my case Paroxetine) provides anxiety and depression relief, while the beta-blocker provides a measure of emotion control, one which even extreme doses of antipsychotics could not provide.

Typically, my main problems due to AS are anxiety and impulsivity. I tend to be very reactive, anxious, and, at times, depressed. Impulse control has always been a problem for me, but I now am far more able to ponder my actions before carrying them out. It's not perfect, nothing ever is, but it is better than it ever has been. I wanted to post my experience to call into question some doctors' tendency to use stronger, more caustic medications when there is an alternative in some cases.
