With all this said, I have a few questions:
-What has a diagnosis done for you?
Nothing - personally I have never been diagnosed, yet. It's up to you if you want to get diagnosed. I tried to get a diagnosis once but my doctor didn't really know what to do with me and sent me away to come back when I could describe my "symptoms" more clearly. But since then I've never really felt the need for it.
If you feel that AS is majorly adversely affecting your life, you should try to get a diagnosis. If not... it really is up to you.

Both. Of course you will always be "affected" by AS, but that doesn't mean you can't learn social skills in the same way as you would learn any other skill - practise. It may be difficult at first but it will get easier over time, unless you allow yourself to become too isolated.
