This is more of an advising message to all of you out there!

Okay, it's common knowledge that most Aspies have sensitivity to noise. Personally, loud, sudden or repetitive annoying noises drive me up the wall. When my dog is barking my emotions get to the boiling point to where I will lunge on him, hold his muzzle shut and scream at him.

Now that's not good. Not for me, not for him, and not for anyone around me.

And vacuum cleaners! And me hearing my Mom snoring from the other room when I'm trying to sleep! (Well, I don't close her mouth shut, but you know what I mean XD I just get very agitated.)

It's all just too much!

So you know what I've found that helps? Earplugs.

We used to own another dog (before she was put down ) and slept on my sister's bed (we share a room). I just could not get to sleep. So, my Dad fished out some old earplugs we had. Finally, a good night's sleep.
But I've found that now, I should try to keep earplugs either with me or around me at all times. It seriously helps me calm down.

Do any of you do that? And if not and you have similar problems, try it out!

I had to use ear plugs at some of the jobs I had when I was working, as they were noisy places. I don't need them now, as I live alone, and don't go out much. It is easier to take the noises when I am out now that I know I can go home to a quiet home, as I now live alone. My place is a haven for me. Of course, there is noise from the neighbors, but it's not too bad. When I sleep I do use white noise though, to help blur other noises. I get it by tuning the radio to static instead of a station. That definitely helps blur the other noises, so they are less intrusive when I am sleeping. :D

I have seen other posters warn that you should not use them constantly, otherwise your ears will become more sensitive. I dont use earplugs but sometimes I use my headphones

I wear earplugs sometimes when I'm in a public place where there is a high level of background chattering.
I buy them for 20 cents at the auto parts store where I work.

I use earplugs and I leave a fan running while I sleep. AAaaaaahh. :)

I live with noisy neighbors, in a downtown location. With footsteps above and sounds of traffic outside it's hard to sleep throughout without earplugs.

I only use them when there's a time of need. Like sleeping, and when my dog is barking. After he's done I take them out.

On the topic of sleep, I could never use white noise, it's annoying to me. Using earplugs makes it so that I only hear my breathing, and that's soothing enough for me.

I use them often to sleep but also put them in during the days if noises are irritating me.

Earplugs would help if I didn't have tinnitus.

I couldn't sleep without earplugs. During the day, I rarely ever wear them. Only if there is a lot of noise, such as a neighbor mowing the lawn or something. But usually I can cope with noise by listening to music.

I chose No, but I'll try it!

... I've never tried it, but have thought about it.

I have anxiety aswell as a sensitivity to sound so I have troubles especially on buses and general public places...

I do use ear phones (the inner ear canal ones) which I find help, so I can understand that ear plugs do too.

I use earplugs a lot but I can't leave them in to long because they start irritating and hurting my ears.
I wish I could just use noise cancelling headphones all the time but I find people looking at me and making funny faces.

i have to wear ear defenders, almost all the time.

like the ones you wear at shooting or when working with loud equipment.

sort of like ear muffs.

i like the howard leight L1 / L2 and silencio ones.

i dont like the feel of ear plugs inside my ears.

when i wear ear defenders when i hit my head with my hands i hit ear defenders instead of my head so its better.

No, because I don't have sensory issues with sound. I use them for sleeping.

Same here, I havnt found any earplugs that dont make my tinitus 10x more irritating, and thus also interefere with my ability to hear what others are saying.

Second on the tinnitus bit, Marine Corps artillery will do that to a guy. But i tried the earplug thing before, and it makes the inside of my ears sweat, so that's not an option for me. Some background noise like a fan or music on a low volume helps me sleep. There are times that I have to just get up and leave the room, mainly before my college courses when everyone's chit chatting. A room full of chit chat annoys the hell out of me. It's not a headache, just nerve-wracking. It was especially bad in high school when leaving the room wasn't an option(and I didn't know I had AS then either)
