1. We will never get caught up in a hazing incident. Hazing is a (backwards) social ritual. We tend to shy away from most social functions. Those that involve violence would definitely be a no-no.
2. We will never get arrested at a May Day or Occupy protest. Some of us are so out of touch with the news that those incidents may as well be happening on Mars.
3. We will never be taken to court for bullying or assaulting someone. How can we? We're too passive and non-aggressive. We're the ones getting bullied and torment anyway.
4. We will never appear as litigants in Divorce Court. Okay, well a few might, but so many of us stay single all our lives that a Divorce Court appearance seems impossible.
5. We will never be pepper sprayed for taking part in a flash mob because we're too busy playing video games or stimming or catching up on our special interests at home.
6. We will never need tutors (at least not those of us at genius level).
7. We will never waste money on Air Jordans or any of the latest fashions because there are too many new cool games and electronics to buy.
8. We will never get lost or stranded at Macy's or Nordstroms because of Reason 7 above, not to mention those stores are too huge and overwhelming in scope anyway.
9. We will never get a headache from the thumping bass at a niteclub because we avoid those places like the plague.
10. We will never have to spend one penny for a fancy dress or shiny new suit to wear at a prom or company party because we don't RSVP to those events anyway.

Well, I don't really see all that much.

I mean, pretty much everything people list in these things are possibly there in everyone to the same amount.

A good memory for facts is an objective one
talking without censoring yourself is another, though not all do this

Anyway, I know a person with Asperger's who's met most of what you list (well, not met, but you know what I mean).

I would probably get arrested for planning a May Day demonstration (proudly originating in my country /patriotic ism) or some minor anti-capitalist assault. I'm well informed on the news and the happenings on Mars too.
Assault may be the result of a violent meltdown.
I have impulsive spending habits and anyway video games are expensive.
I've had tutors.
I don't know about Macy's but I shop at David Jones. But yes big shopping centres are too much for me.

I thought this would be 'list your positive traits' thread. ASD is a complex disorder and many of us are different to the next. many of us have co-morbid disorders too.

I like my attention to detail, not getting caught up in social drama, my ability to turn off from peoples intense emotions, my intense interests and some of the things I can create from them (art, books, diy projects), my natural ability to categorise and be tidy, and my ability to memorise facts. So yes, it ain't all bad but it ain't all good too.

Oh yes most people say I'm honest, I think I'm too honest.

tbh the only positive I see are financial benefits from the government, but who would choose that over not needing those benefits in the first place? I'd sure as hell rather be NT.

I suppose one other benefit would be that you can use it as an excuse if you f**k up and say the wrong thing or act stupidly. Maybe it's less embarrasing to blame it on the Aspergers in cases like that, whether it was AS or not :P

O yeah, you can get an awesome paltry pension that allows you to...buy food and pay bills.

Too awesome.

(Luckily, I'm a humble and simple person, which has nothing to do with the ASD.)

O again, doctors will prescribe you whatever medication you want.

(Which probably isn't an advantage in the end.)

3. Well, I didn't start the incident and I tried very hard to avoid violence, but when someone attacks you physically and is screaming at you...you kind of lose it. This is the one and only time I have ever been involved in a violent crime. No one was permanently injured physically. I was arrested and detained for 7 days (HELL!! !!) because I was the "weird & suspicious one" and she was let go. I can't lie to save my life and she was quite good at it! So, what I'm saying is that it can happen...but you are right, I'm not a violent person.
4. I have been divorced. Again, not quite my doing. I'm gay, but I was raised to believe being gay is sinful, so I did what I thought I was supposed to do...marry the first male interested and asked me to do so. Turns out, I had a choice...who knew!?

Sheldon (The Big Bang Theory) is my hero. When I grow up, I want to be just like him.

I suspect that "never" is a long time, and Aspies have occasionally done most of things you say will "never" happen.

I feel most at home with your 9. I am in my fifties and I have never been to a night club. Cannot see the attraction. I would regard going to one as a punishment.

AS does seem to compel you to see things "as they are". Insert Mr. Spock reference here, but I will say many of my NT friends/family/colleagues don't always seem to be able to detach themselves from their emotions in many situations. It doesn't make you a robot, but you can add an angle to a conversation not normally anchored to a socially pre-determined teleprompter...though it can get bile and rage thrown your way. I was once at a party where I was accused of being a "communist", a “road kill Moderate” and an "obvious Ayn Rand nut" within the same conversation by 3 different people. Now that’s a dinner party hat trick in my book.

I've been to a couple of bars out of curiosity, and it was horrible.

Exactly. This is why I don't understand when someone says "I'm going to be devasted when _______________dies", I can't understand how they are aware of the impending circumstance and still "know" they will be devasted. I mean, death is a part of life, and if someone is in a place where you would even think that (meaning the person is sick or old, etc) how come you haven't comprehended the situation and mentally prepared themselves for it??? This, I do not understand.

I've been told that I'm good with making interesting color combinations. I think it's because I "taste" color and the combinations of colors and textures has a sort of intuitive feel to me. An advantage in making jewelry, wherein I'd pick out beads of various colors and textures to give a certain overall "flavor." Sadly, I don't really like wearing it all that much.
