I was just wondering if anyone used to lick their hands when they were younger- or even still, now in order for them to feel 'moist' because you couldn't tolerate the sensation of dry hands?

...I used to do this, so I just wanted to know if others did this. :)

Only if I had just eaten something yummy. :) Seriously though, with all the hype about germs you can get from touching everything (and when you wash your hands you just get germs again the second you touch anything), I can't even shake another person's hand without feeling contaminated, especially if their hand felt clammy. If I knew the person had just licked their hands I would probably plunge mine into a sink full of hand sanitizer. :( I know it's virtually impossible to avoid germs or illness and that people are almost too clean these days which is making them less resistant, but it's still scary and gross. :(

No, but I have an compulsion to wash my hands when I was younger I would use either saliva or lotion as a substitute for hand sanitizer. It makes no sense, right? Now I just settle with actually washing my hands as a way to deal with my habit.

I even lick my hands in these days, and I pull hair with my teeth, too. When my hands are dry, I often moisturize them by licking... (or just for the feeling of it) I know about germs so I don't do it to my fingertips and palms though, and I wash my hands frequently. Unfortunately I like to rub my face with my hands too, so the germs are often transported there and cause acnes. It was more an issue when I was a teen.

I did when I was a child. Just the back of my hand and my forearm. I haven't done it in many years; now I just have a problem with chewing up my cuticles---that's been around since early childhood as well.

When I was a kid, I would suck on my arms and cause hickeys.

I used to lick my fingers/hands when I was younger because I needed them to feel moist. My parents talked about it a lot but thankfully never did any of the things they mentioned. My dad had always wanted to use some sort of foul tasting cream on my hands.

I used to bite my nails too, and my mom would paint my nails with bitter tasting stuff so my nails would taste bad, but that didn't stop me from biting them. I bit them anyway. I eventually stopped biting my nails on my own, without really trying. I guess I grew out of it.

Hand licking doesn't sound very sanitary, I'd be too scared of what diseases I might catch.

I know, but what's weird is that I was and always have been a 'germ-a-phobe' and a very hygienic person; e.g. I would was my hands how many times a day and I wouldn't shake hands nor drink from a cup that a family member had just drank from, but I just couldn't help doing it.

yeah i did a bit, because i had a hand washing compulsion that often left my hands very dry and occasionally cracked my skin, making it very uncomfortable for them to be dry

I haven't stopped it yet, though I do it only when no one can see.
