I've never subscribed to the societal notions of a person being too old to enjoy things like specific kinds of games, music, TV shows, movies, etc. etc... and I never will. If a 90-year-old still likes to watch Scooby-Doo cartoons, listen to hard rock and play video games, how any why would that hurt anyone else? My father-in-law, in his 70's, is addicted to Wii bowling, and wouldn't give it up for anything.

There's clearly a generation gap over the whole "Too old for things". I expect that in a few decides it will go away. More and more people are realising that video games are not just for kids.

You don't have to wait a few decades  I grew up with pong, then Atari 2600, commodore 64, apple II, etc,. Before home game consoles were available I was spending weekends in quarter arcades back when they were almost as common as starbucks are now. This was 30+ years ago and believe me a lot of kids were as rabid about video games back then as kids are now. You guys probably don't know this but the way Nintendo started out was selling crappy (they were da bomb back then) little LCD handheld games that cost a fortune in that day. No dude, there are a lot of families already that spend time together playing games. Hell, in a few years my video game lovin' generation will start becoming grandparents.

Anyone play on a Vectrex? That was fun, it is still working & it's never needed any repairs.

There's plenty of older people who play video games. The reason a lot of older people may consider it childish, is because they were really invented after their time and they may not really understand them or have any concept of them.

It really just boils down to doing what pleases you.
There are plenty of older individuals that play games on a regular basis.

I'm 24 and play Battlefield 3 with a lot of older and retired people, they definitely seem to care the least about the uptight social perception of gaming. It's changed a lot over the years and can be a very social experience, especially with technologies like in-game voice (or vent/TS3).

I think I know what their issue is. Now video games are sixty dollars. When I was younger I made stupid financial mistakes when it came to video games. I blew most of my alotment on video games.

But now that I am older. I haven't gotten a new game in a while. My last game bought was five dollars. And before that was the only expensive game in a while which was sixty dollars Skyrim it had to be bought.

But for the most part I have lent a lot of self control when it comes down to video games. Originally when I was younger in my teens I didn't have the self constraint and control I have now. Only cause now I know the value of money. I understand the wealth of money. And sixty dollars is not sustainable. Sixty dollar games is not a sustainable purchases.

But I do still like to play the games I have.

I mostly gave it up in favor of watching LPs on youtube, which is cheaper, less time consuming, and with the right person more entertaining. But I still replay old things from time to time, and don't think its wrong for people to keep playing video games as adults.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm in my 20's and still play games. I even have NT friends who play way more than me! 8)

Hang on to the things that you love! My dad's like that with my brother David and me when we watch cartoon shows and play video games. I told my mom this and she said to not listen to Dad. As long as we keep our grades up, then we can keep watching what cartoons we want.

I think I've maybe grown out of it, but I regard this as a negative. But there's the possibility that I'm just in an anxious and disrupted sort of phase right now and I'll be able to summon interest at some later point, when I'm feeling a bit better.

Gabe Newell. He apparently likes video games, makes them, is rich, and seems fairly cool.
