I have a certain 'lot' or a group of relatives that are "eccentric." This lot is my great aunts. One I know may well have it: Theory of Mind issues and severe social anxiety. Imagine someone unexpectedly arriving, such as a car door slam from the outside of your home; so you panic and get down on all 4s and crawl to the window and hope to god it's a false alarm, that the door slam was a neighbor's car and you are off the hook now-- phew! I never seen anything like that before, the utter terror, and panic with weird audible utterances.

one person in my extended family had aspergers but he's dead now. my mum used to bring is stubbourness and aspergers up when she wanted to coerce me into doing things- "you know that guy who died? he had aspergers and he died because he was stubbourn and wouldnt take his medication. this could happen to you." he died of diabetes related stuff. what has that to do with anything? i never met the man so i dont know how he presented. other than that its just me.

I have a nephew with LFA. Now aware of any other relative in the ASD spectrum.

My daughter has been diagnosed with ASD but neither me or my husband have it. However, we do have traits of it as do other family members. Father in Law I am sure has it. Before my daughter was ever diagnosed with autism I was telling people that Father in Law must have aspergers which I am sure he has.

I'm pretty certain both my parents are on the spectrum, possibly my Mum more than my Dad.

However given they were both born at the start of WWII and high functioning there was no chance they'd be diagnosed...

But then I'm not diagnosed either just suspect...

I have no siblings or children.

In my SOs family a nephew and niece have been diagnosed but no one else.

I am the only HFAer in my family. I have three sisters, one is my twin and they are all normal. My dad is normal too. I suspect my mum is schizoid as she can handle all the social niceties perfectly well but just doesn't care for company and doesn't get lonely. I talked with her about it and she agreed. I was diagnosed with schizoid PD before I got my HFA diagnosis too.

I'm one of only two people diagnosed; the other is my mother's cousin, who is lower-functioning than I am. Still, like many others on this thread, I have a few family members who exhibit traits without having a diagnosis:

Father: socially awkward, intense interests, very attached to inanimate objects and collections

Mother: socially awkward, intense interests, some mild sensory issues, attached to her routine

Paternal Uncle: has a diagnosis of schizophrenia, and there's a lot of overlap between his behaviour and the classic Asperger's profile

Maternal Uncle: socially awkward, had speech difficulties as a child, atypical body language

Cousin (mother's side): socially awkward, mild sensory issues, social anxieties

I also have a disproportionate number of engineers in my family, which is supposed to be typical of people with AS.

Seems like I'm the only one in my family who's an Aspie  , but everybody in my family accepts/respects it :)

I am 50. I believe, from my Mother's description in refering to my insistence on routines & stubborness, that my Grandfather had Asperger's. She compared me to him, btw.
He was a successful chemist, but was always kind of stand offish. However, he was my favorite family member. I'll never be sure now though, he passed in 1989. RIP

Sincerely,
Matthew
PS. Estranged from my Father's side so I cannot answer from that side of the family.

I'm an adopted child. No idea about my birth family. Never quite got curious enough to push it

My nephew is diagnosed. Since discovering the aspie quiz I am likely an aspie. My sister also made the grade on rdos.net. My father, one brother and my grandfather all exhibit very strong traits as well.

I'm the only Aspie in my family. My mom, dad, grandparents, and 3 sisters are all NT. I have a cousin with OCD and also two cousins and an aunt with ADD or ADHD.

My nephew and I are the only two with a diagnosed ASD.

Symptoms of such do appear to be greater in my family than the average one though.

Nope. Maternal side: uncle, numerous cousins, and my half-brother; paternal: nobody that I know of.

Pretty much. Not much sympathy when it comes to the subject. :/
