I know this sounds kinda silly but does anyone have like an imaginary world.

For example right now I'm pretending I'm living on an starship exploring the galaxy. Theres alot more to my world but it's to much to explain

Again I know it's silly but with out this imaginary world my life would be miserable and boring from my point of view.

Do any other people with Aspergers or Autism have something like an imaginary world?

I have an imaginary world that has proved instrumental in maintaining my mental stability.

It is a bizarre conglomeration of every book I have read, every movie I have seen, every game I have played, et cetera with a distinct focus on a fantasy-genre world containing numerous races of anthropomorphic animals (aside from some typical mythological creatures, humans and animals) with a very secret group of powerful semi-immortal philosophically-minded wizards attempting... something (I keep changing my mind on it exactly).

Contrary to how most people's imaginary worlds seem to function, I am not present in it; rather, it is a story, one which I keep changing, and I simply observe events or play out different characters' roles.

I find it embarrassing to talk about it much, and I keep changing it anyway, so I won't say anymore.

Yes. I've had a biography of my own life, vivid as a movie, going in 3rd person since I was 9. I'd call it fun but it's really distracted me from "going out" and getting a "real life" all my life.

i have an imaginary world that I have had since I was a small child. In fact, I can't remember not having it. It's changed a lot through the years but the main characters and idea stay the same. Like yours, it's become very complicated and in depth. I've never told anyone about it other than the fact that I tell myself stories in my head when I am bored, or even when I'm stressed sometimes.

I have a character that represents me, but I don't always play that character. A lot of the time I just watch the other characters going about their business, and I even see my character through their eyes.

I have other story lines or worlds that I sometimes play out, but those are mainly for the purpose of writing down later, or turning into a manga (although I never get around to it!). I don't really spend much time with these, but just to be fair I thought I would include them.

Yes, I do.
I play "episodes" in my mind before sleep, always. Usually I'm some of my old table RPG characters...
Very weird... good to know there are others :D

Yep, its the things I want to do with my life. I can pretty much be in a full on dream state while walking down the road.

J.K. Rowling has at least one.
J.R.R. Tolkien had some.
Suzanne Collins has one.
Stephanie Meyer has one.
Stephen King, James Patterson and Dean Koontz have several.
Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan and James Cameron have them.
Hasbro, Microsoft Studios, Rockstar Games, and even Rovio Games have worlds of their own!

You're not alone.

(EDIT: I'm not saying they have a/A or not - I missed that in your question at first - but hey, who cares? Everyone needs a playground. Whether it comes from someone with AS or not! :P )

Since I was a teen I would try to create fantasy worlds with different races and histories and cultures but one of them I've worked on for over ten years now I guess (I got rid of the others or merged elements of them with my favourite one) with maps and character sketches, holy books and history books of the different races and religions in the made up world. I've actually nearly finished the first draft of a novel and used to work on a short prequel that I haven't touched in years. I think I've done the first 17 chapters and have started the others but need to finish them, from chapter 18 to 21. I dunno if it's good enough to get published one day but even if it isn't I'll probably work on it my whole life just as a hobby to try and make it real like Tolkien did. I don't like the genre of fantasy where people just find a portal from the U.K or the U.S to a quickly drawn, scrappy reality (sorry Narnia & Harry Potter fans etc). I think fantasy should be about total immersion and escapism and world building from the ground up in the romantic tradition. Maybe aspies/auties are over represented in fantasy writing? That would dispel myths about lacking imagination.

And yes, I have a world of my own too. Several all interconnected. Ten years ago I started mapping it out in computer documents and on spare note paper, and I've been writing it ever since (see my sig). My world has anything and everything in it, from mechanical werewolves, to alcoholic immortals, to the core of our planet being comprised of a massive demon's head that got stuck there through a dimensional portal. There are other galaxies, angelic protectors of the universe, and sooo many planets that all have their own "thing" to define them; something to make each world unique. Dreams can take you to visit a spiritual prison, and gods of other planets slowly make their way to our world.

Write your world down and bring it to life! You might enjoy it! I know I have.

I've always had a rich interior world, there is a certain atmosphere, colour and sound involved as well as impressions of characters. My story writing is always sci-fi or just completely surreal. The aspie part of it comes from being better at the technical aspects of creating a fictional world but having to consult others to ask how a character should react if such and such happens and to get realistic dialogue.

Yes, as long as i can remember. My repertoire was significantly influenced by few movies and many books, for instance the Sherlock Holmes novels and Hercule Poirot since i found it so comforting that both characters were able to solve criminal cases by thinking and combining the facts.

Another section was SciFi and there a kind of society without social crap. Communication was literally and factually, everything in this world practical and useful.

But there are many, many more, countless of them. One of m current favs is an underwater world without humans.

I have had an imaginary world ever since I was a small child. I feel like I spend a lot more time there than I do in the real world. The characters and setting change to suit my special interests, but all in all, it's the same basic premise: spending with my favorite fictional characters, which usually either involves us either partying together or fighting evil.

I've had some fairly involved imaginary worlds. They tend to be connected/similar and can sometimes cross over.

I've been trying to adapt some of this to fiction writing.

I like to get really detailed in my world and I make sure nothing does not make sense while keeping it fiction.
