:?: Hi I suffer from Asperger's Syndrome which brings on severe anxiety and am only on Diazepam at the moment which isn't helping much. I would be interested to know what meds other users on this forum are on and do they help? Amounts (mg) would also be of interest.

I'm curious, since I had to go to the emergency room twice and to my doctor once with severe anxiety attacks. What other meds do you take?

Well at the moment only 15mg Diazepam & 150mg Trazodone.

But in the past have been on:

Fluoxetine, Venlafaxine, Reboxetine, Citalopram, Clomipramine, Dosulepin, Priadel, Venaxx XL, Temazepam, Agomelatine, Sertraline, Buspirone, Concerta XL, Modafinil, Bupropion.

Quite a few cocktails over the last 10 years. Some helped for a while but not long term.

Are those only related to your anxiety? Do you take meds for high blood pressure, pain, high cholesterol, etc?

No the meds listed have always been either for Depression or Anxiety. Some are stimulants which is a last resort sometimes to treat Depression.

OK. Sometimes other meds not taken for depression or anxiety can cause panic attacks.

I got off of my klonipin. I didn't like taking it often, anyway. I can have 2-3 beers and that seems to calm me down if I am in a crowded area.

I have also been trying cannabis again lately. Just 1-2 puffs makes me stop obsessing about the same things over and over again so I can have a conversation. It also seems to soften sound for me. Normally, if someone tries to talk to me when there are other sounds, I go insane. If I smoke just a little, sounds don't bother me at all.

I used to use kava kava for anxiety. However, its not very popular in the states, and I got sickof people asking me what it was. Plus it doesn't taste too great. Cannabis is actually way more socially acceptable from my experience.

I've been on Hydroxyzine Pamoate for over a year and it's really helped me. I could even leave the house for some time without getting sick but this medication has eliminated a lot of the problems I was having with anxiety.

I have suffered from social anxiety when confronted by larger groups and new situations in general society. What I have noticed over the years is that as long as I am in a well known situation or family group I rarely have problems with anxiety, also when with "the geeks" (my wife's name for the computer group i am a member of). Many members of this group are Assperger's and the other geek types are not bothered by the Asperger's of the group letting their Asper hang out I have yet to have any signs of an anxiety problems when I am with this group.

My son was diagnosed with AS because of depression. Yet much of that depression has abated after he completed the 8th grade - and is no longer in the school where he was being targeted by bullies. Next year is a new school that is much smaller - and a academically advanced charter school which promises to have little or no bully problem.

So it looks very much like that the problems we Asperger's people have with anxiety and depression may in reality have very little to do with Asperger's itself an a great deal to do with how we are treated by the rest of society. If we can find a way to greatly reduce or remove the social oppression we now live under - we should find that that both anxiety and depression will also lessen greatly among us.
