What is normal? Everyone I like is full of madness. Do I want to be more like the (almost all non-autistic) people I enjoy being with?

That's easy enough to answer: no, I like being my own person and rather than becoming more like those who I like, I prefer to surround myself with them. They're extremely fun and they're often helpful even when they do not understand.

I do however desire change as far as autistic impairments and the impairments of ADHD go.

Self-improvement, learning to manage self-help/adaptive/whatever other everyday tasks somewhat smoothly, doing more of those things that I want to do when I want to do them - I'm all for that because that has all been very substantial to my life in how I can function today.

There are times when, yes, I wish I was more normal. Other times, I am thankful for the skills and talents which have been lended to me because of my Asperger's. If being normal meant giving up my talent with words, my talent with numbers, and my talent with mechanical devices, then I woiuldn't make that trade. It would be nice, however, to know what it's like to have friends, be invited to parties, and be successful. Those things are still possible with Asperger's, just harder won. I would be more likely to wish that everyone was an aspie.
