Yeah, I know exactly what you're saying! My mom thinks I'm just trying to get attention when I say that, but I really sometimes do feel that way!

Isn't it strange how 'suddenly' you get your mind back!

Yeah, it is! It's like one day I feel as if I can't remember or do anything, but the next, I know even more than before! Talk about weird!

Yes, and I feel like a completely different person, brain power as well as personality and mood. One day I will be confident and outgoing, the next brooding and nervous. Peoples moods change day to day, but for me its like I become a different person.

What I meant by brain power is intelligence, like: do you feel stupid one day and intelligent another day?

I had an "outgoing" day about three weeks ago... probably the most outgoing I've been in years. I'm still pensive about getting an eval (although I did make an appointment today!), but that day really made me think that I was "normal."

However every day subsequent has dispelled that thinking. I'm pretty sure that it was just a string of smooth interactions more than anything. An emotionally charged conversation to me is talking about my cats

YEP! It happened to me just yesterday and today!

Yesterday, I felt like I was in a losing battle with french and hindi. They are 2 of the languages I spent the least time with. Well, TODAY it was not only easier, but I knew stuff that yesterday it seemed like I didn't.

A little over a week ago, I had almost savant level math skills for like 5 HOURS!

Oh well, even on my STUPID days, I'm not that stupid. I'm still THE go to guy, and can still do my job well, etc... I'm just struggling to try to have fewer days like that, and more days where I could almost declare I have savant level skills.

Steve

I can feel smart and stupid on the same day. I can get over 90 percent of the items on my list at work and then do something incredibly stupid at home.

I've just been feeling like there's a mountain-range worth of cloud in my head. Getting worse. My head hork is a-dying, mates!

yes, this happens frequently. it comes in waves. i'll have a few "smart" days, be productive and feel worthwhile, then something in my brain happens, and i shut down for some time. i think that this could be related to stress, but also, i don't know why it appears to happen at the most inopportune times? btw heardalis(sp)?.....i like ^ your avatar. very amusing.

There will be days when I concentrate well and take everything in. Those are the days that I can do well in anything I try.

Then there are those days where your mind just isn't there. It's sorta like your mind's tired, without your body being tired... Like you just don't wanna do anything, and you couldn't even if you did...

yes I do, but I mention mood and personality because it changes with my brain power. When I'm not feeling smart I feel incompetent.

Totally. I've come to learn that the "down" days are a result of some combination of fatigue and nutrition. When one or both is off, it depresses my ability to think. I think this is probably true of most people. Also, perseveration plays a role. When I'm hyperfocused on something, I give my self mental backslaps for being so freakin' brilliant. However, in day to day, common sense situations, I sometimes feel like an idiot.

I would consider fatigue and nutrition first, but also consider the role that perseveration plays in this, as well as the possibility of some subtle bi-polar type of mental fluctuation - such as cyclothymia.

Coffee and exercise help on the down days, btw way.
