I always smile for photos, even thought it feels weird and I know it's not a true smile unless the eyes also look happy (Or so I have read). For years it's been my older brother who's the "camera shy" one and seldom smiles for photos. Sometimes I wonder why no one has ever thought HE might have Asperger's instead of just being "eccentric".

I smile and it looks genuine for about 2-3 seconds and then goes all cheezy looking. I have to think of something funny and make myself laugh or just not try to smile until right before a photo is snapped. I hate group photos where people are taking pictures with 3-4 cameras because I can't time it right.

I am unable to fake a smile - if it's not genuine, it's not going to happen.

I can smile, as in being physically able to smile, but it's extremely awkward for me. Reminds me of Sheldon on TBBT when Howard and Leonard told him to smile.

I do smile awkwardly during pictures, although people try to tell me that I'm not; apparently my smile is 'hidden away'.

Not wide, with teeth. I can grin but the effect comes off horrifying. Either GreatWhite Shark or Randal Flag aka the Dark Man from "The Stand" by Stephen King. I can ( almost ) laugh about it. I break it out if someone starts pestering me about not smiling..

Sincerely,
Matthew

I hate having my pix taken, and avoid it like the plague. If it can't be avoided, I can force myself to smile--no teeth showing, but it is a fake smile. I don't like being forced to smile when I don't feel like smiling. Since I am homely, I don't like having my pix taken. Also, I feel it is a violation of my private space. My relatives tend to try to force me to let them take my pix at gatherings, but I refuse. I am not interested in having my pix saved for posterity.

I can, but it doesn't feel natural to me. I feel like I'm faking it.

My son does not smile and cannot look at the camera either. My daughter does something that she thinks is smiling, but it is most definitely not, and the odd thing is that what makes her look so strange is that I can tell she is trying to "smile with her eyes." So, somehow she has picked up that that is the "right" thing to do, but her approximation is utterly unnatural looking.

I, myself, avoid having my picture taken to the extent that I can.

With some effort, yes.
I much prefer candid photos that way there's no strain to look happy.

Posing for a photo is a form of being fake whether you smile or not since you're "posing" for it.

One side of my mouth drifts down into a blank expression without my feeling it. Then my eye will look like it's twitching. So I end up with a very bizarre facial expresson like an awkward half-smile. :P Naturally, I hate pictures!

I look better when I smile with teeth showing and in photos where I purposefully frown I look like an ex-con.

I'm pretty good at putting on smiles and I've been told I have a nice smile. Although if I have to pose for too long for the photo my smile starts getting distorted and skew.

If I try smiling for a photo I usually just end up looking p**ed off. I seldom show my teeth when smiling, though I am not ashamed of my teeth. They are a little crooked but it never occurred to me to be ashamed of them.
