Particularly firearms. When I see a window of a shop selling weapons I feel revulsion. And I abhor any form of physical violence. Can’t stand it: be it exercised against humans, or animals. In movies I can see violence against humans because I know that it is tomato ketchup, but I have more problems about animals, because, in most cases, animals are really killed. The worst to endure for me is violence against powerless living beings, tied up persons or creatures, like in executions or slaughtering. If you ask me if I am a vegetarian, I answer: I have been off and on a vegetarian all my life, but I admit it’s very complicated, because, want it or not, you are part of system where violence and killing is endemic and embedded. But I don’t like it. I also know that physical violence is not the only form of violence, and I suffered much of it myself. Mental abuse and cruelty may be even worse than physical violence and is all around us.
Is this part of autism? Man, like his nearest kin, the chimp, is a very aggressive animal, but internecine violence is different from aggressiveness: aggressiveness is fight within some rules, is emotional and communicative, it doesn’t ends in killing as a rule. Killing, particularly with a weapon, a gun, is cold, unemotional. Is not motivated by hostility or hate but by achievement. Also I am not aggressive, but I insist that’s a different thing and while I consider my lack of aggressiveness a fault, I would not say the same of abhorrence of killing.

What would you do if some one attempted to hurt or kill you? I don't like violence either, I would far rather talk my way out of a situation that resort to it, but the world in which we live sometimes nesscitates it, and I would far prefer to commit violence upon some one who intended to hurt or kill me than suffer from their attack.

Cats will hunt for sport. They kill birds and snakes without the slightest intention of eating them. They might kill mice without eating too. They'll eat all the fish they catch though. Cats LOVE eating fish.

I guess I don't really see the difference between agressiveness and what you're describing as cold bloodedness. Plenty of bar fights end in deaths. Are you trying to differentiate between like crimes of passion, and systemized killing (eg the Holocaust or slaughterhouses)? The mainstream view of Autism, I'd think, is that we'd have less of a problem with killing something or with watching something die than most people (because we're short of empathy, self-preoccupied, etc), but I've always had the impression that I've had a harder time with death than people around me. I don't like to see people killed in movies and as a kid I didn't like to randomly kill bugs (although I remember at least one instance where I spent an afternoon crushing ants on a sidewalk and feeling guilty about it).

I'd say the same for myself, but I haven't gotten around to getting any guns. :( I probably will, soon, since I found another person who wants to go to a gun club with me. :)

Anyway, I just plan on using them to shoot like targets and stuff, and self defense. I'm not going to become a serial killer or anything. :D And I don't even think there's anywhere nearby where I can go hunting even if I wanted to, unless I want to hunt some hippies in golden gate park (no one will miss them).

You hardly need to justify getting a firearm, it's a free country.

As far as AS is concerned there is a belief that people with AS are more likely to want to protect the vulnerable, and I can identify with that.I seem to be more effected by hearing about the rapes and genocides in Darfur, then I was about the 9/11 killings.I think maybe because it was hyped like a made for TV movie(and then they made the movie)Some how those deaths were different....for one thing, the people who of 9/11 are dead, not suffering. The people in Darfur and in a lot of poor countries are currently suffering with no end in sight.Death bothers me less then suffering and the insanity of humans who inflict it.That makes me feel hopeless and suicidal(and has since teen years).

I think people feel more sympathy for the victims of 9/11 then the survivors of New Orleans. Please tell me how Bush got re-elected?

There is a part of me that scares myself. It is more of a "role" then the real me...but when I imagine being backed in a corner by some one with a knife...I can imagine ripping their throats out with my teeth.....yet,I have been raped, robbed and hit and have never done more then calmly stand there and try and reason with the person.I did have a psychotic break after being robbed 6 months after an attempted rape.I was paranoid that the guys would come back and seek vengeance after I identified them.Yet at the time I felt detached and felt no actual hate for them.

I did once think that if I were to act out on my suicidal feelings,I would be tempted to take out a few pedophiles before I went.At least provide kids with some justice.....I doubt I could do it though...I still believe in the possibility of Karma an dont want any blood on my hands.

I feel revulsion about certain kinds of weapons

cluster bombs are the number one in this category, chemical, biological, and weapons that are viewed as non-lethal but can be very much so <tasers are a big one in this category>

on the other hand some weapons fascinate and amaze me, MOAB and daisy cutters are just amazing devices to me, yellow dogs, firearms, tanks, aeroplanes, and, oh god missiles, missiles are fascinating

but the ones I do feel revulsion towards I do feel almost physical illness when I hear tha the government has developed more or purchased more

Oh, no, I was just pointing out to paolo that just because it's a gun, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be used to kill something, since he associated guns automatically with violence (which I can understand).

I agree about the 9/11 attacks. Although I feel anger at the fact that they were carried out and thousands of people's lives were affected, etc etc, I know that there's similar stuff going on in other countries, like Somalia, that we don't give a damn about, yet everyone in the world knows about 9/11. To tell the truth, I don't know any more details about these events, but there's plenty of unrest out there.

Also, when I was growing up there were instances and times where I would have been considered agressive. I've been in fist fights, some that I've initiated. But I've never wanted to do anything worse than just hitting a person; I've never wanted to stab, wound, or kill a person I've fought. I've never carried a knife or a gun. I've had fantasies on really bad days, but that's more or less normal, and I certainly never considered acting on them, although considering my appearance during school, I'm sure a fair amount of people thought I might. :P
