Interesting article. One fact to ponder is there are more parasites than hosts on earth since every known species has parasites and parasites even have their own hitchhikers called parasitoids. It is an area of biology that is wide open since the study of parasites is a niche field with few researchers.

As for autism and the metabolism of sulfur, who knows? It's possible it may play some role and warrants more study. It is my belief autism is a very complex polygenic condition

Re: article. Don't be silly, it's not the lack of sulfur that causes autism. We all know it's those tiny silvery-coloured cupcake sprinkles....they're pure mercury, you know. Spooky. 8O The never ending story du jour of autism. What's next? People who were born in rainy places tend to be autistic? Oh wait, they already thought up that one. I'm blaming the cupcake sprinkles. (Plus, they're oh so shiny and, c'mon, isn't that distracting?)

Interesting article, and yes, I will consider eating more eggs--for the sulfur. I am not a big egg eater, but do occasionally buy a carton and hard boil them. My stomach can't handle any form of soft cooked eggs except very, very well scrambled ones. I've done that a few times, but it is messier than just hard boiling them. I have trouble enough keeping up with the chores without having to clean up after scrambled eggs. I did use up a carton of liquid eggs that way once, though. I would cook a portion in the microwave and put the used bowl in the fridge to reuse next time, and kept doing that until the liquid eggs were gone. It worked for me, but I prefer hard boiled eggs.

Holy crap, freaky!

When I was a kid I used to eat the heads off unburnt matches. After I moved to Florida, though, I stopped having the urge to eat them. I found out the sulfur content of the water here is much higher than up north. Could there be a correlation?

Up until recently, no. Lately, I've been eating an egg once every 3 days or more, and baked beans every other day. I also have some nuts/seeds about once a week. I don't really go out much, so it's hard to tell if I've "improved". Although I have felt this need to meet people my age since, but that might just be the loneliness getting to me, I've always had a strong interest in socialising, I believe it's my nature.

I can't stand the smell and taste of sulfur. Sulfur based preservatives in food are over powering to me. I read the ingredients on every food item I buy because of this.
